Power Commander Help!

Well it’s not that urgent. The bike that I bought came with a PC. It runs and rides well, no dips or gaps when riding, it pulls to redline strong. I dont know if the bike was professionally tuned or just base mapped since the previous owner didn’t install it and never asked the guy before.

I’m getting my bike inspected at DE Twin Cam on broadway in depew next week. I’ve been there before and the owners a great guy, he did my last dyno run on my gsxr. He wants 100 bux for another dyno run, and if it needs tuning 300. I guess it’s not a horrible price but I’d rather not spend it if someone on here knows a thing or two about PC or could hook me up for a couple of bucks.

Anyone has a connector and laptop with the program to see what I have? I doubt i’m doing damage to the bike, I use 93 oct even though i’m sure it doesnt need it but its only 50 cents more a tank, and i’d like to check whats on the PC.

I got about 160 miles before light blinked, like 45 mpg just like willy said =p

any takers that can help me out? or know someone?

I am not sure if bikes are like cars but typically going above the recommended octane level is actually worse since it burns hotter. At least thats just what I have heard from mechanics when they talk about it. Their rule of thumb is use the lowest grade possible that does not cause pinging or anything and most 600’s I have seen ask for 87 or 91 unless you have some significant engine mods.

Just my 2 cents.

If your really worried, pull your plugs out and see what they look like. Should be brown paper bag color.
White = lean
Black = rich

sorry dude, but you’re wrong.

Lower octane fuel burns hotter than higher octane fuel. The pinging that you hear from running too low of octane is detonation because it’s burning TOO hot.

do you have any of the software? best things to do is get all the software (the cd) and the cables. Once you have them you take the cd, install the cd to a laptop. Use the software to do two things based on the commander you have 1) download maps then upload to your powercommander 2.) do live running on your powercommander with your laptop to see how it is running and you can lower or raise fuel / air ratio. Basically plug and play.

Ah gotcha. I thought there was a temperature issue with the octane. I know this discussion happens a lot in the summer when people wanna put 93 in their stock civic’s. My bad.

Yeah, running higher octane is just a huge waste. You will lose power.
