problem on the dyno

this morning i had my ca18 s13 dyno’d…the motor has just recently been rebuilt plus i added gtir injectors and an safc 2… the car seemed to be smoking blue fairly bad but only under load/boost…piston rings shouldnt really be an issue because of the recent rebuild… im thinking the turbo is on its way out…btw its a t28bb…ideas??any input is greatly appreciated!

did you rebuild the engine or did you have someone do it? also how much break in period did you give it?

i’d put my money on turbo seals as well. cross your fingers!

i rebuilt the motor with the help of a couple mechanics…with reguards to “breaking in” the motor … i’ve barely even drove it that much since i did not have the safc2 working properly…and with upgraded injector’s it was obviously running rich, since no tuning had been done yet…im gona do a compression test 2moro so i guess i’l see what the verdict is then…if there was internal damage (piston rings) wouldnt the car smoke blue at idle too??

Not always. On boosted motors it will blow a little blue when your in high boost.

Sounds like rings.

Did you break in your rings properly?? If not i would put my money on them.

i had been babying the car for proly in total maybe a few hours of driving before it hit the dyno…guess we’l find out on the compression test 2moro morning :cry

Ballbearing turbo’s need oil restrictors (Smaller than Journal Bearing turbos)…Im gueesing you just used the stock lines…

You may have blow a seal on the turbo.

My bet is turbo.

you did not break in your motor.

Or the other way is very little bost, gradualy increase your rev’s over 1000 kms and LOTS OF DECEL aka downshifting)

Better start know. The first 20-50 kms are the most crucial.

i probably put about 800km’s or so on it …revs proly didnt go past 4-5grand the whole time… i’l find out soon what the compression on my motor is !

so you drove it for 3 hours and put 800km on it? thats an average of 266km/h…anyways it doesnt really sound like you properly broke in the engine, and most likely will need another re build

well maybe it was a little longer than that… i thought about that after i posted…hah… guess i’l find out soon!

although im gona have to downgrade to the sr t25 im thinkin… i dont feel like spending 1100 bucks on a new t28 when im gona have to park the car soon!
