Heres the background, my Audi’s waterpump shit the bed and was having issues with with getting the title for the rx7 from the previous owner. So i decided just to get rid of them both and get something I’ve always wanted to own. Didnt plan on getting anything until spring but while searching on craigslist i found the best deal ever!
A 1993 Ford Mustang LX 5speed 2.3l bought for 480 bucks and got it delivered to my place. gutted interior, needed a starter, alternator, taillights and battery. one rust spot.
this is the rust hole right behind the seat. Never seen this before
gonna turbo this dog!
used set i picked up
got a cheap gt hatch to replace the rust out one
new seat i got
replaced the old nasty coolant tank with a monster can
gonna try to update this as much as possible. oh and if anyone has any parts lmk
Monster can is a nice touch.
Bracketracer is gonna get all reminisce when he sees this

I’m nowhere near being a Mustang guy, but it seems like thats a really clean shell for $480 bucks. Amirite?
I don’t hate the progress man, keep it up
LSX swap?
please check the strut towers … where they meet the frame rails
its a pretty clean shell and it runs great too. didnt expect a running driving car when i got it
nah im gonna turbo the original engine until i cant squeeze anymore power outta of it
The ones that prone to having the blocks crack in half
Anyways cool project
already did they are solid. even had my coworker who has multiple foxes check it out
That car probably has some bad weatherstripping on the passenger side, and allowed water to puddle on the floor. I’m guessing it has sat for years and years?
How different is that 4-banger from the SVO 4-banger? Same block?
I had two of these 2.3s. They wouldn’t die!! One the gas tank fell out doing donuts in the road and started on fire. I ratchet strapped it back up and it never missed a beat.
Mmmm…fire roasted donuts.
All Ford 2.3L OHC (turbo and N/A) rods and block are the same based off the pinto engine - from 1974 to 1992 (D4 casting number.) Other than that…the turbo block is machined for the drain-back hole.
The 2.3 pistons are all the same excluding the SVO/turbo versions, which were forged.
From 1979 to 83 high compression (9.0-1)
From 1983 to 1988 low compression (8.0-1)
Obviously SVO had a different intake manifold and exhaust mani, oil cooler, 4 wheel disc brakes. IIRC the svo had a cool premium fuel button on the dash.
the sunroof is pretty beat so thats a good bet but it hasn’t leaked anything in the couple weeks ive had it sitting or driving
my first car was a 93 ranger same engine which was a blast to drive. ran it 2 months with only one spark plug in cylinder 1. sounded like a big lawnmower haha
got a bug in my pants and removed all A/C components
making some room for the turbo
the pic really doesnt do it justice cause the intake tube goes right over where the a/c parts were
that is one way to handle getting the crabs.
picked up a set of Weld drag rims, they need tires tho
How much for the a4?
i sold it for a grand
