Proper Way to Wash a Motorcycle

since willybeen has given me a significant complex about how dirty the wheels are on my cbr, and also stabbed me in the soul by stating “you definitely aren’t going to be as meticulous as ryan”, i have decided that i shall prove him wrong.

i have been quick detailing the paint with meguires, and keeping the seats and shield clean with various other products. however, how do i actually wash the bike? is there a proper way to do this? any specific cleaners to stay away from? specific areas to avoid over-soaking?

also, what is the best stuff to remove brakedust from painted wheels?

i am going to be shining her up this afternoon. maybe my neglected Si will get attention too, but i wouldn’t count on it :gotme:

thanks for the help, bike krew.

Drive into a pool. Profit.

i will drive you into a pool. if by pool, you mean puddle of my piss… :sword: just kidding

:purextc:

i know it sounds like a stupid question, but i just wanted to know if there is anything different people do.

Don’t clean the seat with anything slippery, unless you want to slam your nuts into the gas tank while braking.

car wash soap and water, the same way you wash a car. Plug the exhaust with something and also the handlebars and instrument panel if you want, but everything on a motorcycle should be water resistant. If it something breaks because you wet it, it shouldn’t be on your motorcycle.

For the wheels just use a sheepskin mit and the car wash solution. It really helps to have 2 stands so you can turn the wheels…

A couple guys I rode with didn’t like wetting their bike, but in 8 years of riding, and ALOT of washing, I never had a problem.

thanks guys.

what rdandy said. If you wanna use my stands to do the wheels… shoot me a call… we can lube up your chain too… i’m certain that’s been neglected too. <3

I have a man crush on eclipsed and willybeen…my head is about to explode when they post together…

oh that sounds so sexy.

For the chain, I use wd-40 and a soft bristle brush to CLEAN the chain, then I rinse it and dry it, then use a proper chain lube.

I like pj1 in the blue bottle. It applies thin, so you can wipe the excess, and thickens after a few minutes.

GL, hey Willybeen…

I use carb and choke cleaner, or engine bright on an old rag?

But, my bike is not pretty.

 thanks for all the help guys - willybeen is hooking me up with some chain lubing this afternoon :ohyeah:

Finally getting those wheels washed huh? haha

I use Eagle One Car Wash spray after I wash it with car soap and water. It works pretty good at keeping grime and stuff from accumulating on the bike. Rainex on the windshield makes it easier to clean off the bugs i’ve noticed too.

fags

get some car wax on that paint asap. xymol works miracles on black paint. you’ll see nothing but swirls after that wash.

what is sexier then Sam washing a bike

Nothing comes to mind ATM…

…sam washing MY bike??

i could use it lol.

I’ve never washed a motorcycle.

Honda spray polish /cleaner is all you need.

Brake cleaner to remove brake dust.

yessir - i shall pick up xymol asap.

absolutely nothing.
