edit: so i 100% believe its the bluray player, because it freezes with movies and games but performs effortless with netflix.

i bought a used system a while ago, 60gb backwards compatable.
I knew it was gamed with heavily, and I also gamer on it pretty heavily.

Up until tonight it has been flawless.

Tonight in the middle of a brand new game, it froze so tight you couldnt quit with buttons ect.

I didnt think anything of it, happens, checked the disc incase I accidentally touched it, nope crystal clean. Shut the system down, left.

Went to wally later on, bought one of those dual blu ray packs, for flyboys, because I like that movie.

Start watching it, everything is fine, then bang it freezes, then it wont load the disc, like i never even put it in.

Then it works again, and freezes a little bit later in the movie fml.
So I grab black ops, which has been working flawlessly, wont load/freezes.

Currently its working WTF?

Blow out the vents with compressed air (NOT A VACUUM). Happened to me, turned out it was overheating.

Yeah try canned air, NEVER a vacuum like Prog said. I’m thinking same as Prog…overheating since it works intermittently.
If this is the one you bought from me I never had any issue other than a occasional game freeze from network issues (COD).
I did blow it out on a few occasions when the fan would seem to get loud or run longer than usual. How’s the fan sound and was it running faster than usual recently?

sounds normal to me. I’ll try blowing it out, its on an open desk with plenty of air, bt I know how often I have to clean the dust from it, so I’m sure its inside of it. Thanks guys, I’ll give it a try.

i blew it all out, wasnt very dusty at all.

played black ops few matches then quit, came home, jumped on monster jam, played for like an hr or less, the music starts to skip like its going to freeze, so i quit out.
screens black, it makes 3 beeps and is just sitting there now.

has it shit the bed?

last night i did a full system format, and tried to play the same bluray, got about 40 more minutes into it and it locked up again

so its freshly reformatted, ready for you to update and play

Odd I wonder wtf it’s doing. So it gives no odd lights or weirdness and just locks with the lights on as if it’s normal?

yeah whats worse is, it will freeze. but sometimes unfreeze if you hit the eject disc button like 100 times, it will finally pop out the disc.
Idk consouls should just work imo. So I’m gonna go without one for a while, then buy a brand new slim with the move bundle and warrenty.

Sounds heat related but that’s so odd that it’s letting you play sometimes and not others. I wish I could help more. 8/

I was guessing that too, but the system is like spotless from what I can see in the vents. I’m always cleaning around it ect.
Always cool to the touch the only place it seems to get hot is around where the power supply plugs in.

its gotta be the bluray player, no issues with all normal functions, even after the system being on for hours.

I watched some movies on netflix without issues.

Good diagnostic method. I have a 40gb older PS3 and snagged it cheap cause the blueray was spent. Would read cd but not dvd or blueray. The lens was only about $50 but was a slight bitch to get in. Worst 2 parts were one of the sensors has wires as thin as a fucking horse hair and the wire broke. Then after fixing that and the installation you have to align the mechanism which was odd as I recall too.

Was just coming in here to suggest replacing the laser.

Same thing happened on my 80 gig. COD and movies would lock up, then wouldnt recognize any disc. Figure out which LASER you need and replace it. If you decide to swap the entire BD drive you need to swap the controller card on back side of the BD drive as the motherboard is married to the BD controller.

I dont really want to take it apart tho, with my luck I’ll really screw it up. Maybe someone will buy it and fix it.

Just sucks because before xmas, I was telling my girl about fly boys, and we seen it for 8$ but passed on it, because I didnt have a big ass tv to enjoy it.
Then walmart discontinued it. When I finally get the damn movie on bluray, my ps3 shits the bed fml.
