Maybe we could get more people who are into cars and racing???
There is an inherent problem with talking about ONLY cars on here, without the bullshit. Everyone has different tastes. I know nothing about building LS1 race cars or swapping BMWs, but I butt into the threads anyways because I am interested and because I can. Then I make a stupid comment based on assumptions and get flamed. If everyone kept their mouths shut about stuff they’re not an expert on, this place would be like a ghost town.
Unless someone is discussing things that everyone is an expert on, there will always be conflict. Everyone claims to know it all, but nobody does.
On dedicated forums, people tend to know more about that one dedicated car or w/e it may be. Civil conversations are more likely in that case.
Talking about racing only leads to bench racing and lame call-outs. Lame call-outs always lead to insults, drama and “disrespecting” other people. You either deal with that, or GTFO.
Are we keeping this AWD?
Srsly, quit being a fag.
The forum isn’t the same community it once was…
I wish UBRF was still around so I could bump/show the track meet threads to NYI with 30+ cars on a fairly regular basis.
I dunno man, I think the car community is quick to jump in and help most anyone wherever they can. I’ve met tons of people through this community, made some great friends, and generally have good experiences related to it.
+1
I’ve met good amount of people on here through selling/buying stuff, common interests, etc.
some are quick to jump in and help while others are quick to complain, comment, put down, insult, etc… I’ve messaged people about help before without ever getting a response back. But then there are members who actually are willing to lend a hand. Win some lose some. In the end though you can’t judge people solely by their internet presence.
for reallzzz, him and his dad came to the ritz years ago to pull a ton of parts off of a civic hatch beast had bought as a doner car. he was a cool dude IRL, but 80% of the time i read something he posts i groan
yes people will jump in and help, but take one person from 2 sides of the spectrum, and post the same thread, how many people help the one guy? thats more what i’m talking about, in the latter thread, it will probably be more berating and flaming than anything else
100% correct when talking about this forum.
my point is, go to any of the other local forums(and i wont name them cause i’m not sure the rules on that), people are extremely helpful, and dont stand for any flaming at all for the most part. it just seems like a better community. the people that cause problems either get banned or leave on their own. and i think that all boils down to how you police the forum and the standard you set for everyone.
i’m not defending karter in any of this as i dont think i’ve ever met him, nor really talked with him at all on here
We police, you bitch. We dont police you bitch. Guess what, not policing is easier and I am a busy guy.
The people that are likely to NOT get help are the ones that don’t ever help anyone else, or who are here only to stir things up.
I have helped and been helped. I have traded beer for diagnosing an issue with my honda swap. I have lent a $600 welding setup to a member on here, with no collateral. I have had professional mechanics offer to have me stop by their house and help me diagnose a difficult issue. I lent an engine lift to Dr.Dos when he was in a bind with a blown motor. Just some examples off the top of my head.
I did not know ANY of these people outside of this forum. I had never met any of them in person.
aren’t you an admin? you shouldn’t have to be the one doing the policing, you should have mods you trust doing that for you…
running a 50K+ member forum, when i was an admin, i rarely touched a thread at all, that was the mods job. and there was little to no issues, everyone kept each other in check
i’ve helped people on here, but i dont make it public, so i guess i’m SOL if i ever need anything eh?
Mods and admins both police. Most of the time it’s whoever sees it first.
I am a mod and huge contributor on my ltx site and whenever I police something I let the admins know. They approve or deny it and possibly reverse what I did. So admin still has a huge role in the policing
Meh, the mods are busy guys too beer doesn’t drink itself.
FYI I am pulling the board for a few minutes tomorrow night for some updates, maybe tonight so this post buried in a thread is my warning to everyone.
like i said the forum i’ve ran for 10 years, the admins dont touch threads, we have mods that we trust know what to do, if they have a question, they ask…other than that we dont hear from them. the big thing is having your friends as mods and such, you cant work with friends, they will take advantage over time, little by little
hell i stepped down to a supermod, and still dont really police much, the normal mods keep it in check before i even get to it
No
I am just countering the notion that people here are pricks who don’t help each other out. I am proving, with examples, that is not the case.
i’m not saying everyone here is an asshole, i’m saying the ratio is higher here than other places i frequent
It’s only higher here because its a local forum…
When I lived in Dallas and Waco both the local forums were the same way.
However the entire forum was still a tight knit group that would go race other forums/towns/whatever lol
Exactly
Of course if I head over to mazdaspeedforums.org I will get a lot of help diagnosing my mazdaspeed3 issue. Everyone is there SPECIFICALLY because they own and are presumably knowledgable about mazdaspeed3/6 cars.
same with buffaloSCOOBY
or DUBSinthebuff
or wnyFBODY
all car specific places
I have bought and sold over this forum, both items and services. I have never once dealt with a douchebag. Period. On the site, fuck, who cares, if there is someone causing that much of an issue, they typically are dealt with ex. CaviMike. Only reason I joined this forum is because I enjoy cars, plain and simple. If that’s not your motivation, unless you have a thing for bacon or beer, go join a fucking book club.
