Question about inspection. yep, one of those.

I have a one year old truck up for its first inspection. I cracked the passenger side mirror. The glass is still there, it just has a crack in it.

It wont pass like this but rumor has it that if i remove both mirrors it will pass. True?

I searched but im not sifting through pages of posts. I dont care if you like it or not.

If you have a driver mirror and a rearview mirror you do not need a passenger mirror. I only say this because like 15 years ago my brother bought a ford escort new and it had no passenger mirror from the factory.

I second it. All you need is driver and rear view mirror.

Not just the glass has to be removed. The entire mirror assembly has to be removed from the door.

if it helps you can buy universal stick on mirrors to go over your cracked one. They are cheap.

this is correct. you have to remove the entire mirror assembly for it to pass.

Remove the assembly, pass. and if the place you take it to gives you a hard time ask them to look up the regulations on their inspection computer.

A piece of universal ‘glass’ cut to fit and taped on has served me well in the past. Remove post inspection.

correct, rearview and drivers side exterior required(without cracks). if removing pass exterior entire assembly has to be gone.

I would’ve thought if it came from the factory it had to be there, like seatbelts in the 50’s and early 60’s. Good to know.

Why don’t you just buy a new mirror?

You are right and the others in this thread are wrong. You need to remove BOTH mirrors. You may need to remove the inside one too, but I think that they probably won’t notice.

I recall that the vehicle must have the mirrors “as it left the factory”

Jesus these threads would die quick if people would just learn how to use the internet.

Mirrors

Check mirror locations for proper mounting, cracks, breaks, and/or discoloration.

Model year 1970 and newer - must have a left outside mirror and an inside mirror, or both left and right outside mirrors
Model year 1968 and newer - must have a left outside mirror
1967 and older - must have one mirror that is either an inside mirror or a left outside mirror
Note: Any vehicle that has a permanent obstruction of the view through the rear window (Example: a truck or van) must have both a left and a right outside mirror.

Dropped my wife’s suv off for an inspection this morning and just got a call that it was ready to be picked up. So much easier when you just properly maintain your damn vehicles.

I just lease. By the time shit starts breaking, I get to trade it in for something new again.

Come to think of it… I think my inspection expired in February.

Both mirrors need to come off. Internet is wrong.

What steps do you take to maintain your side view mirrors?

If they break, he replaces them instead of finding a way around it.
