i hooked an ipod nano to my stereo, and it doesnt nearly as good as a cd did?? is this normal?? i tried some of the preset eq’s on the ipod, and it either is too much bass, or not loud enough, and i turned the volume up on the ipod, then my stereo…
See if your stereo has a Portable setting. should found with the dolby/ multi-stereo/ mono etc
also turn it up on the ipod
my ipod has a auto correction or some shit setting also
make sure you don’t have volume limit turned on…i’ve seen countless people do this.
an iPod isnt going to sound as good anyways, especially when it gets louder because the music is compressed more than a CD so there is quality loss… it depends on what bitrate they’re compressed at, but even at like 320, you’re not gonna hear as much detail.
and if you run it through a stereo jack, I think that creates even more loss including less volume.
go into your itunes setting on a song, goto volume adjustment and crank it. they make a program that does this for you I forget what its called.
x2. The limit actually limits the output to the headphones. If connecting thru the data connector, than the volume on the iPod doesn’t matter. Also some aftermarket radios have a source adjustment. Make sure it is set accordingly.
I have to disagree on your above statements. If you are a true ‘audiophile’, you may hear a difference in the sound quality due to the compression. The rest of the world ain’t gonna hear much difference. I have spent 20+ years in the car audio business & my iPod sounds pretty damn good in my vehicles with a direct input. My truck has a pretty healthy system & the iPod sounds great at high volumes. I have the direct interface with my Jeep OEM Infinity system & it sounds as good as a cd.
I am by no means an audiophile, but I do notice a little bit of a difference, depending on the quality of the song and compression and it’s thru the direct connect on my Pioneer IP Bus. It doesn’t matter to me, but I was just creating the expectation that it may happen if you’re picky with the music quality.
Also I was under the assumption he was using the headphone jack on the ipod and maybe the FM tuner, which has a bigtime sound quality drop.
ya how about some more info on how you have it hooked up
I was just going to come and throw the flag… but it seems you beat me to it…
I have a direct line input to the stock headunit in the goat, and I challenge you to hear a difference between a retail audio cd and some of my VBR Encodes… shit even a 192 CBR
my ipod sounds just as good as a cd does in my si
i will say i did notice a difference from using a cheap 6ft cable to a monster 3 ft cable
it also depends on the quality of the file that is on the ipod
