OR you could always depress the brake pedal and unhook your battery (so the brake lights dont drain it dead) and with the pedal depressed you wont drain the WHOLE system due to the valves in the master cylinder keeping the fluid in it due to vacuum.
Prnding the vehicle u really don’t want it to go empty. It can make it a real bitch to bleed after.
Wouldn’t this cause him to bench bleed the mc after? I doubt it would get that empty but it could get air Inside it.
Let it drain and reverse pressure bleed it FTW.
You dont have to bench bleed the master, it is simply easier to get the air out.
It wont drain completely dry just hanging.
Thanks for all the comments guys.
Ive replaced calipers before and I do know they need to be bleed…which Ive done. I have never drained and filled the entire system but I have heard it could be a PITA.
I think the comment about draining the system and putting in DOT4 is a very good idea. I plan to do this on my 2000 S2K which has around 27k on it. Im almost sure its the original fluid. So maybe its a good idea to drain and fill.
Now the comes the hard question, do I go red or black =P
polished!
you’re not going to empty much fluid unless you get in the car and start pumping the brakes
go with black or silver, never a fan of factory tiny caliper with flash color.
Is the 10 bucks for fluid really breaking the banks if it is making parts looks pretty wouldnt be a big concern of mine
Guys, he is asking how to avoid flushing the whole system…which it’s not the end of the world if he does. It is not up to us to determine if it needs to be done, right?
If you don’t grab the ever loving bejeebus out of them then you won’t rip the lines. Your not trying to remove a broken bolt so you do not need to break your hand trying to clamp the hose. You just need to “clamp” it enough to lock them in place. You do more damage hanging the caliper buy the brake line when your working on the car than clamping them with Vise-Grips.
Bleeding is not a big deal, and you will need to do it anyways, but if you need to get the car back together and don’t want to bother flushing the whole system then clamp them. As far as everyone saying “It’s not a big deal” then PM them, pay them $20, and have them do it for you.
