I was just speaking to my mechanic today and he told me my rack and pinion wasn’t in good shape and will need replacing.
My main question is if the 1989-1990 style rack and pinion is the same for the 1991-1993 version. Im asking because i notice a lot of people are parting out thier 1990’s on this board, would it be a good idea to take the rack and pinion from a 1990 240 and swap it into my 1991?
If your car doesn’t have power steering, then it probably wont matter. If it does, make sure the inlet for the power steering lines are in the same location. Otherwise, it should be straight bolt on.
pretty sure all 240sx were made with p/s, and even so it is not where the p/s lines go into the rack that makes the s13 a and b different, its were the lines go afterwards. But i’m not sure if the racks are interchangeable.
Everyone knows the lines are different, but my response was to the question, which asked about the rack and pinion… presumably he already has teh PS lines that match his motor/chassis. If not then he askekd the wrong question.
Yea, i was only talking about the rack and pinion itself, i’m not worrying about the P/S lines right now. But, i was thinking, i might as well get a new rack and pinion instead of swapping one in thats been used for about 14 years. It’ll save my time later on, thanks for the replies though.
