question on tech inspection for roadcourse

my saturn is likely going to be my track car of choice for this year. at the last event I had my upper engine mount fail. I replaced it with a new OE style rubber one but I don’t want to have it happen again so I want to tie the engine down so it can’t wiggle about in the engine bay.

Are ratchet straps allowable if they are kept away from any hot/moving parts and have the loose ends ziptied so they cannot come loose. the only other mods to the car will be a trans temp gauge and tires… I will be working on the driver mod a lot this year.

I can’t imagine any tech inspector passing a ratchet-strapped-together car.

y not get a torque damper for it

not the whole car silly just to limit the travel of the engine at the top so it doesn’t rip another mount on decel

it is my dd I like the smoothness

Are you talking track events like DE’s with an established club (BMW, Porsche, someone else like that)?

I don’t remember there being anything that SPECIFICALLY says that you can’t do that, but I can’t imagine any mechanic overlooking that when you get your pre-track inspection done… and even if they DID fail to mention it on your tech sheet, the tech inspector(s) at the track, like Brent said, would probably have a few issues with that.

If you are talking about something informal like Dunnville, talk to whoever is putting on the event.

what kind of saturn?

this might help

Ratchet strap is not the way to go, especially if it comes undone and gets in a wheel or axle.

Just get one that you can install and remove. It doesn’t even have to be a “shock style” damper. It could be something as simple as round or square stock that bolts to the factory location of the engine mount or make a new location and compliment the factory rubber mounts.

Get to the track, spend 5 minutes bolting it in, beat on it, spend 5 minutes removing it, drive smooth.

even a shock style one isnt going to be that noticable on the street…what about poly filling the mounts…vibrations are barely noticable

A ratchet strap will fail at DE’s, and it will fail for any event @ Dunnville or TMP I’m at.

SDA also sells motor mounts, they are local and cheap.

jesus

come on guy, the saturn parts posted are not exactly expensive, do it right.

best post in here. a piece of square stock with some tabs welded onto it. bolt to engine and to frame. as stated wouldn’t take long at all.

that is what I was asking thankyou
