my saturn is likely going to be my track car of choice for this year. at the last event I had my upper engine mount fail. I replaced it with a new OE style rubber one but I don’t want to have it happen again so I want to tie the engine down so it can’t wiggle about in the engine bay.
Are ratchet straps allowable if they are kept away from any hot/moving parts and have the loose ends ziptied so they cannot come loose. the only other mods to the car will be a trans temp gauge and tires… I will be working on the driver mod a lot this year.
Are you talking track events like DE’s with an established club (BMW, Porsche, someone else like that)?
I don’t remember there being anything that SPECIFICALLY says that you can’t do that, but I can’t imagine any mechanic overlooking that when you get your pre-track inspection done… and even if they DID fail to mention it on your tech sheet, the tech inspector(s) at the track, like Brent said, would probably have a few issues with that.
If you are talking about something informal like Dunnville, talk to whoever is putting on the event.
Ratchet strap is not the way to go, especially if it comes undone and gets in a wheel or axle.
it is my dd I like the smoothness[/quote]
Just get one that you can install and remove. It doesn’t even have to be a “shock style” damper. It could be something as simple as round or square stock that bolts to the factory location of the engine mount or make a new location and compliment the factory rubber mounts.
Get to the track, spend 5 minutes bolting it in, beat on it, spend 5 minutes removing it, drive smooth.
