Quick/easy question for Outlook nerds

Brute Force lock coming in…10…9…8…

What does that mean?!? Come on I need answers quick so I can get this fixed and get to the JP Fitzgerald’s golf tourney!!! lol
It is now saying it doesn’t like the username WHICH HAS NEVER CHANGED!!! God I hate Microsoft!

You need to call whoever set it up…

did you put the domain name first? You could also try deleting the mail profile and recreating it.

or try replacing the ‘@’ with a ‘+’ but it is likely something else is misconfigured

Shouldn’t be an “@” in your username unless you’re using the FQD. So if you’re email is username@company.com it would be DOMAIN\username

Outlook wouldn’t be asking for a network password. Outlook is a mail client and it may ask for your email password. If you lost network connectivity MAYBE then it would try to connect and ask for credentials to get back on the network but at that point it’s not Outlook that’s the issue…it would be something on the network authentication portion.

Good point…if you are on an exchange email account you may need to add the domain before your user name.
In UB’s case we need to put ad\ before our username so we authenticate via active directory. It’s tough to support this without further information on your end. Are you even on an exchange account?

It is asking for network password because it authenticates to Active Directory. If you are on the domain (ie connected to Active Directory) then it shouldn’t be asking for a password since it should be doing a passthrough on the password you entered when you logged into your workstation (this is usually how it’s setup, but we know 0 details so it’s just an educated guess at this point). Sounds like something is messed up on the domain.

Yep, depends on the setup and like you said we have 0 details.
For example here at UB I need to put ad\username because we are actually on an internally hosted subdomain. If you only have 1 domain the authentication should just passthrough like you said.
So Blue Eyed…get us some infoz and we’ll help you out.

I’ve seen workstations lose connectivity for a few seconds and then it will prompt for a username and password. Even if it’s a domain machine, it will still do this. Almost always Outlook will grab the user credentials on first setup and then that’s it. If it continues to prompt you, I’d go to the control panel, delete the profile, create a new one and then open up outlook again. This should walk you through the setup, in which case all the info such as your email should auto-populate from AD.

Where is your support team? The questions you ask are something a helpdesk should be taking care of for you. They are fairly basic for nerd types.

You guys are my help desk. I could call Synergy and give them my first born to look at the problem but…
So who wants to make $200 to fix this problem TODAY? Just so you know you won’t get paid unless you actually fix the problem. I am sick of “experts” telling me, "“well your situation is unique so the last 4 hours I spent only half fixed the problem, I will send you a giant bill for the half-assed work I performed.” I guess people are experts even when they only know half what they need to know.

Fixing complex problems takes time. Stop being cheap and call your support person.

How do you propose we look at your issue? If you download and install teamviewer (free) I can probably give it a quick peek.
The biggest issue really is your inability to give us the full info. Not taking a jab at you, no disrespect meant. It’s a tough thing to support end users with computers…welcome to my world. LOL

^^ Screenshots are always welcome ^^

any error messages, steps you’ve already taken, etc.

I was thinking a local person could come here and make a quick $200.
As far as me being cheap, keep in mind it costs me nothing but it will cost my employees when it comes to profit sharing bonus. Just sayin, if the profits are spent…

this thread just goes to prove that if you ever help somebody over 40 with a simple email question you become their helpdesk for all computer issues for life.

LOL Blue. PM sent Devil

^^Hey don’t feel obligated I just thought I would ask before spending several hundred dollars on what seems to be a simple problem.

I have that in poster form…for a reason.
