I guess i’m growing out of the loud ricer exhaust phase, I’m looking for suggestions for a quiet aftermarket exhaust system or even just a quiet muffler with or without silencer I could just slap on my car without spending too much money on a exhaust system overhaul.
Again i’m not looking too spend too much money, Looking for something VERY quiet in low RPMs but has some sort of a roar at higher RPMs heh. I’ve noticed that generally dual tip mufflers are abit quieter than the singles (canisters etc) maybe its something i should look into, maybe throw on a resinator?
Some info to aid your suggestions:
stock ka24de
currently running 2.25 piping with a loud ass muffler
have no real preference on looks or style but would like some sort of aftermarket “look” as I will be doing a s15 front end conversion with full aero before the summer.
So if anyone has any first hand experience and/or is currently running a good quiet setup please let me know what your running or what you can suggest.
And yes STOCK would be a final option for me if no one can suggest anything.
Have a custom silencer made to replace the muffler you have now.
Aftermarket Mufflers will always be loud “to a degree” hence why most come with a resonator and why some people even use two. If you looked @ a 2 stroke motorcycle you would notice they dont have a “muffler” but a “silencer” which is packed with a special sound deading material “which will not burn or hold mosture” and is the only way you can actually go about “getting the exhaust quiet”
Think in terms of a rifle… the barrel is some what of an “exhaust port” hence the BANG! when its fired… but when you screw a suppressor/silecner onto the end, the BANG is 80-90% gone. Well same thing will happen with on a Car.
hah, that is more like putting a band-aid on it and not actually “solving the problem”… and I say that because you then get into exhaust flow, everytime you alter the flow or make it flow into another “chamber” you’re going to lose power. So having say a Catty, 2 Resonators + a Muffler is just adding more restriction in the system.
Someone on NICO made a good point tho, the piping isn’t stainless, and is probably prone to rust… anyone have experience with a non-stainless exhaust in Toronto winters?
I have one of there super legalis Type-r’s and it is Really quiet with max air flow.
QUOTE=scribbles;231679]Fujitsubo makes some of the best cat backs. their mid muffler design makes the car as quiet if not more so than stock while maintaining good flow.
But it’s not something for the nervous wallet types… $$$$[/QUOTE]
So I talked with Enjuku, and this is definitely the only option, as shipping to Canada would be $265/box So, I would have to go pick it up. Do you guys think this deal at $394 shipped is worth it for me to make that kind of trip? I want high performance and really clean sound, and it seems this exhaust is where its at…
hey i saw your post in the thread, im still undicided if i want this exhaust…i mean like, have you heard any sound clips? But if I do go through with it, let me know what you have in mind.
I haven’t heard it yet, but everything I read about this exhaust is really good… they all say it is super quiet and performs great. Anyone have real world experience with this thing?
I just installed an 18-inch resonator in my exhaust and while it did quiet it down a lot its still a bit loud under WOT. I do have a full 3-inch back though.
Id try the resonator before you switch exhausts, its a cheap option.
I just put headers (thanks antonio) on my DE with 2.5" piping, a 3" resonator and a magnaflow muffler. The setup was way too loud so I got a 4" put on after the 3". That sounded just like stock, but I really wanted to hear my muffler so i took off the 3" and now it is soooooooo clean. The pitch of the exhaust is the perfect compliment to the pitch of the intake and I kept the performance gains too
Thanks for the suggestions, gonna look into a resonator + a silencer and hopefully that would quiet things down alot if that doesnt work its time to redo the whole system.
