Does it go away when you put the clutch “in”?
Did you check your oil level ?
hopefully its not comming from the block , it would be a bitch to do an engine swap in this weather
Took off the valve cover, everything looks fine. Nothing out of place or loose or anything and the sound persists, though not as loud.
It does sound like it’s coming from the block.
And I don’t think it went away when I put the clutch in.
I think I might have to sell some things and be in the market for a new KA.
try to get a video, as soon as you’ve got one we’ll have an idea
I’ll try to post one tonight
this is a bad sound to hear. (rod knock)
Yup…spun rod bearing…put a bullet in it.
(oh, that’s not your video. If it was…^^^^ is my answer)
Yep, it’s rod knock. Anyone have any decent KA’s lying around?
=(
awww. gives hug i hope nothing like that happens to mine, if i had a ka id give u one lol.
at least its not something as silly as this hahahahaha:
lifters .
i’ve got a spare single cam if you want to swap it…
Nah, need a DE, not a single cam kinda guy.
does it have a/c? your saying rhythmic rattle most common cause of that I have seen is the a/c clutch. or a bad pulley possibly the water pump too.
Lifters make a tapping or ticking sound, rod makes a slapping or loud knocking sound just use a long screw driver or extension to determine where it is coming from.
It sounds like a loud knock/slap
Its very hard to diagnose what it is over the internet, especially with almost 300k it could be a lot of things. skirt wear, broken rod, broken anything. If it is that loud I would pull the plugs (might be hard coming out) and see if one of them is smashed to shit (broken rod). Then I would start looking for cracks and holes in the block and oil pan. If that all looks good, do a compression test.
Best way to know for sure is to get someone with engine experience to take a quick peek at it. I would offer to do it myself but I’m extremely busy for the next couple of weeks.
i have an S14 KA (so twin cam), unknown KM but has good compression. missing intake manifold and distributor. comes with a cool red flake painted valve cover. $100 picked up.
heat shield? lol
nah, its not a tinny rattling, its more of a heavy metal against heavy metal knocking
