(re)building my new / johns old 280z

was just curious. ive seen it done both ways, last one i did was on the race sled and we did it with ring on piston.

gotcha  That’s the method I was taught, and I’ve always used it.

.

sounds nasty…

Your motor came in.

I guess you could say its… the cats meow

Mockup pic

Time for a huge update.

I have been neglecting this post for a while so here we go.

Completely gutted the car and painted the entirety of the interior with rustoleum hammered paint

Welded in a strut tower brace / harness mount point. This is temporary until later on once everything else is together.

The car will be getting caged at a later date with different seats and 5pt sparcos all at once. This is just a temp thing so the car is driveable.

Got the piece of shit weapon R harness for 10 $? I think. It replaced the stock ones that barely reached over the seats. I cannot stress how ashamed I am of these being in the car, but its temporary and probably safer than 35 year old belts almost stretched to the max fitting around the head rest.

Pics of the 3.545 rear end that I blew apart

3.90s arrived, cleaned and painted the carrier

Proceeded to weld the spider gears so I dont have a repeat of what’s above

All assembled and shimmed up, new bearings and seals etc.

Back in the car it went.

Now for the motor.

Sand blasted / ceramic coated the headers

4340 forged crank, 3.875 stroke

Painted the block, early high nickle casting 4bolt main.

I cleaned any overspray and gasket mating surfaces after I took these pics.

Going with 1.5 full roller rockers (stainless) this time.

Installed guides

Oh and a quick pic of how the paint looks after its dried:

3-4 coats of clear if I remember correctly

Went with a tunnelram because why the fuck not.

Final mockup before sending it back to klispies for clearancing and balancing

I didnt take pics but I’m using mahle coated 1.062ch pistons and 6" scat procomp rods.

Oh and the car now has a real fuel cell.

Your ashamed of the harnesses but not the dash? Don’t ever give me shit about my car again.

Always remeber that you played a part in its creation

Don’t get me involved in this ! You don’t blame the crock pot maker for the bomb !

Haha,

Did you put your shifter back in yet?

Yeah, but I need someone who knows how to bleed a clutch.

I really think that mc got air into it when you pulled the cap off and it sucked itself dry.

Either that or it just needs more bleeding.

I think it just needs to be hit again. It did take us awhile the last time we did it.

Looking good man…can’t wait to see it out
