Re-doing the s14

Thanks everyone for your input, I expect more as my car progresses along on it’s project.

However, returning to the topic at hand, here’s the update on the sr20det swap.

I got the motorset from Jay (known as spooolin on the forums). Drove up to his shop in Tavistock on Saturday and got straight to work. Everything was actually going pretty smoothly, no complications in getting the KA out of my s14. Jay’s a great guy to work with, he knew that I was not mechanically inclined, and wanted to learn while he did the swap. He took the time to explain some of the things he was doing, and by the end, I got myself in there and helped out with some minor things. For me it was an awesome experience, and now feel more comfortable navigating around the engine bay.

However, as with any swaps, we ran into a couple of ‘situations’.
While I was scrambling to get some parts for the swap, I totally forgot to get a downpipe, so my exhaust wouldn’t hook on because of the different bolt pattern. Also, while mounting the FMIC, that’s where I encountered the battery problem, and realized I’ll need a thinner battery in order to allow the piping to connect to the throttle body. I also need an actual sr20 a/c compressor, since the KA didn’t bolt on. (I did have one bolt in there, but the thread was all worn so the bolt didn’t hold the compressor in place)

But other than that, it was a real standard swap, everything was plug and play. However the FMIC problem along with the exhaust proved to take too long, so we couldn’t complete the entire swap in one day.

By the time I left his shop it was already midnight, and had to drive back in a snowstorm from Tavistock to Toronto.

I’ll get pics of the swap up soon, just need to finish uploading all of the pics.

for now I’m just running factory boost, so as for now, the only things outstanding

  • BOV (using a stock talon bov, not the prettiest thing, but functional for my application anyways)
  • downpipe (Jay is probably lifting it from his sr setup, since he has the RB now)
  • Thinner battery so we can mount the intercooling piping
  • (not priority) ac compressor (anybody have any idea how much this goes for?)

stuff for later on (probably spring)

  • koyo rad
  • larger injectors
  • adjustable fpr
  • walbro fuel pump
and whatever else comes up that i need…lol

but anyways, I’m excited, Jay advised me that it had fired up the first time without any problems. So I’ll be returing at the end of this week to pick it up.

This marks the end of my ‘ricer’ look, lol.

I’d seriously consider getting a Walbro pump sooner than later… But otherwise sounds like the project is coming along nicely.

bring those rims out. keeps it flush
cars nice tho…

oh wait this is son… gay. i hate it not my car so it gay

get all oem shit, lower it and get some rims. done.
by the way, when you take that kit off…break it so it wont be on another car
i think the best way you can probably go is with the nismo 270r. so sex.

270r is horrible looking, i can’t stand it.

navan aero is so hot.

origin is cool too

LOL at that green s14, whooolliiiie tucking rear tire…you can like flick that lip and it would break, that is way too excessive

As promised, here’s the pics of the swap taking place

making sure that it doesn’t snag on anything…attention to detail on jay’s part (used fabric straps to hoist the engine instead of chains, he doesn’t like marks on the engine)

anyways, that’s the end of the pics for now…picking the car up on Friday as we couldn’t get some things done that night. I didn’t wind up leaving until midnight…still had to mount the FMIC, thinner battery, install downpipe and my exhaust, and lastly just install the bov

those pics will come later as I get them

but once again, it was certainly an experience for me, as I feel a lot more confident around the engine bay now.

looking good dopey, looking good
I didn’t read the entire page, but are you leaving the kit you have on the car? or you replacing that as well?

the kit is gonna go
i’ve been looking at different sites
i like the vertex kit, but been also looking at the version select kit
something more nice and clean

also looking at getting new rims

but all of these things will have to wait

Update:

Just to let you guys know, the greddy FMIC is on, as well as Bings 3" exhaust.

The FMIC makes my kit a lot less gay, surprisingly…I guess it fills that giant hole in the middle. Definitly no longer as ricey…lol

Also, when I originially purchased Bing’s 3" exhaust, I thought it was waayyy too big for what I wanted. But after putting it on, it looks awesome, a lot better than my previous exhaust tip. The sound it produces is also quite different. By different…I mean deep and loud…x2

I’ll update with pics as soon as the weather is less gay.

grab a kouki; hood lights fenders…

I dunno…the zenki front grew on me…and I quite like it

What do you guys think of the c-west kit? (i’m not a big fan of it, rather the material, PFRP) It’s rather expensive though

Rear Bumper

Or the other kit that caught my eye was the normal JP Aero…although it’s just FRP

Looks clean though…
Almost like a $900 dollar difference between the two kits. C-west being the more expensive one. Albeit it’s better material…

Note: These pics were lifted from the mynismo.com site

I’m not feeling the C-west at all, but I quite like that second one.

bnsports wide body dude

do you have a pic that you can link up?

a lip maybe + tire stretch, spacers and tucking?

Hey…check it out…
found some VIP style kits…

“supermade” kits, hard to find.

I would just sell your s14 and buy something else… way less effort.

I have thought of that on many occassions…I was toying with the idea of getting a 350z…
but to be honest…i’m strangely attached to the s14
it’s cheap to do up…maintenance is easy…insurance is cheap

i still may pick up another car later on…but not right now

i love the car…to put it simply
