Get their insurance company to pay you for diminished value, then trade it in right quick!
dealer is fixing it… cant screw them
meeting with lawyers tomorrow.
I’VE HEARD OF LOTUS CHUMPS GOING AFTER DIMINISHED VALUE AND ACTUALLY GETTING IT.
Worth a try. Explain that their negligent driver caused you a loss and they need to cover it.
A guy at work got like $1800 diminished value back on his wife’s Mazda that was hit. It only had like 800 miles on it.
I’ll buy it from you when you’re done.
Not sure if its been stated and man that really blows and sorry to hear. Make sure they check your headlights as best as possible. They may look undamaged, but you may have a hairline crack in them on the corners where you don’t actually see them. If that is true, you can gain moisture inside them potentially killing the headlights and needing to be replaced. Just trying to give a fair warning about that part. (had this happen and is no fun when the headlights are $300+ a piece)
best of luck with the car.
This sucks, go back to driving a 240sx
Im sure the headlights are way more than $300 to replace.
Thats a shitty situation. I always am looking behind me when stopped nervous that I might be hit. But then again, none of my vehicles are nearly as nice as your M3.
Oh for sure on the price. Just really stating a fact more than anything. Shit those headlights are probably around $850 new. (didn’t search so could even be more)
I bet these headlights are over $1k a piece…
it’s at a BMW certified collision shop and it’s getting the VIP treatment and I have a close personal relationship with the owner / manager of the shop, the appraisal company on the file and the adjuster… the insurer is also a client of mine… there will be no issue with the integrity of the repairs done.
Canada has no precedent for diminished value claims, it’s called accelerated depreciation up here. I know it exists in the litigious US but not up here :). It wont be likely that i could find a reputable legal firm to take that kind of case on contingency. I would have to bolt that claim onto an AB claim but it’s too early to tell whether that will be necessary or not at this point.
Explain to us how the tow truck nonsense goes on the QEW? There are vulture trucks who sit and wait for accidents then tow your vehicle before the police even arrive to see it? :gotme:
MSRP on them is $1,192.36 (each), I believe that’s without bulbs or ballasts though. So probably $3200 ish all in.
we have a chasers on the SON forums actually.
tow trucks and their dispatchers are monitoring the police scanners and respond with ridiculous efficiency to anything on the highways in the GTA. This doesnt happen outside the GTA really… a bit in Hamilton but not in Ottawa or in other provinces.
basically the tow truck would have picked up my BMW and instead of taking it to the body shop of my choice he would have fed me a line and since it was close to closing time he would have taken it to his company’s impound lot and kept it over night and delivered it to the body shop in the morning. he would have charged the body shop $200 per day for storage, $200 for wait time or a hook fee and then more for emergency repsonse etc. etc.
then they solicit accident benefits claims and refer you to a ‘specialist’ who racks up assessment fees and charges your insurer for it. if you don’t have a preferred body shop they will take it to a chaser shop who pays them a % of the collision repair… various other nefarious things can be pinned to the claim. it’s quite the racket and there is a whole industry built up around it that insurers are fighting.
however, the flip side of it is that the GTA cannot afford to let the highway traffic be blocked up like it would be if these guys were not waiting to respond to these accidents so quickly. every minute of additional delay costs tens of thousands of dollars to various companies who operate on JIT inventory so it’s a catch 22 situation.
if you get into an accident in the GTA you will have 3 tow trucks on site per vehicle involved in the accident within 5 minutes… and they will always arrive before emergency services (police, fire, etc.) will because they are staged at almost every exit on the highway.
Yea. fuck tow truck drivers…except for the honest ones.
I got into my first crash and the fucking dick bag fed me some BS line about the first tow being always free. he neglected to mention that its only free if the crash is being claimed through insurance.
I clearly told him I’m NOT going through the insurance. so he hooked up my car, took it to the collision center impound lot.
Of course, when I was done with all the paperwork, those guys wouldn’t release the car till I payed them a ~$200 impound fee.
I was pissed off beyond belief and I was ready to find that low life and do some real work to his truck.
I honestly hope I run into the fat fuck again so I can cave his face in…
