oh stop. ive known enough people that have had to replace wheel bearings every 30k, coilpacks every 40k, dont even get me started on control arms of the b5s, and christ, i couldnt imagine paying ~$2k to replace a steering rack on a car that just broke 100k. cels on constantly, “special tools” to do mundane things like replace rear brake pads, he doesnt have a garage, so lets keep it to HONDAS and ACURAS. sorry i even mentioned bmws.

IMHO an audi is a car you lease, buy new or very lightly pre-owned. the cost of ownership over 100k if your not a reasonably skilled mechanic would probably average out to a monthly lease payment for a much newer audi. dont get me wrong, theyre great cars, very fun, great in the snow, ect ect. just from my personal experience cost of repairs is really rough

I never needed any kind of special tool, and working on it was easy and enjoyable. I have yet to get underneath a more straightforward car. Of course I have no idea if this applies to the newer generations.

Misguided information like this is what has made my job slightly more difficult. I have never seen a Honda from the north that wasnt half in the bag rotted out, body falling apart in 10 years. Sure they are still running great, maybe burning some oil, but all the Honda fanboys think its great. To me all of the Japanese cars are worthless, I have no idea how people give them such praise. Find a 10yr old Audi or VW with 200K+ and it will still be running great and rot free, but somehow these get the bad rap because people who once owned a 1987 Audi $500 car say they are junk, but their $500 Honda was “great”. If you buy cheap junk, you get cheap junk, the badge on the front does not matter. Maybe just a rant, but I would appreciate people who know nothing about Audi cost of ownership to stop with the spread of ignorance. It just makes it that much harder for me to do my job.

Totally untrue, I have a civic that is 15 years old and looks Brand new still. It’s a 4 door and its white. It depends on how the owner takes care of it. It only has 70k on it and has been very well maintained. it still books for $5000, It’s for sale by the way.

Audis can look so hot and the awd is a nice feature, but fixing them and keeping them running makes me cringe, they are much more complicated than an E36 or e46 imo

My B5 and B7 were two of the most problematic cars I have owned. Both were also “low mileage” examples.
B7 - 3 diverted valves, PCV system failure, passenger airbag sensor failure, both front strut mounts, 2 coil packs and HPFP failure/out of round cam lobe and that was from 28,xxx to 46,xxx. I bought a 97 civic with 200xxx miles as a daily cause my Audi was pile of shit.
B5 - 5 coil packs, 2 wheel bearings, maf, seized wiper linkage and control arms. That was from 58xxx to 75,ish.
But your right - both had no rot and little rust for what that’s worth.
