Relocating Utility Pole...

I currently have a utility pole in my backyard running wires to my house and my neighbors’ house. (Utility Pole is located on my property - outside the fence)

Was looking to purchase a pool, but seeing how I have wires above my backyard - it seems near impossible.

My question is - can I call the Utility Company to possibly relocate my pole, seeing how it is smack dab in the middle/rear of my backyard??? And re-run the wiring to go around the permiters of the house(s).

Anyone have any experiece or knowledge with this at all???

Why not just do that?

It can be done, pretty sure it’s going to cost you. I think the process is you call the power company to get approval, then you have to pay to have a licensed contractor move the pole and arrange for the power company to turn off the power while the work is being done. Anyone who will be affected by the blackout has to be notified.

see below…

You have to do what JayS said

$$$$

Go underground, baller stylz.

I had a utility pole in my backyard made of cedar when I moved here
I cut it down, bucked it, split it, then relocated it to my wood pile.

Of course there were no wires on it however…
So I’m not entirely sure my info is relevant.

tried calling yesterday, but apparently i was 5 minutes after they closed… will try again today…

Is power the only thing on it or does it have phone and cable too??

cable i know of, im uncertain if there is phone or not.

I called yesterday, and put a “Request” in, should hear back in a week or so. They said that they forward all requests to “the planner.”

So we will wait and see…

Yeah, I would not expect this to be a very fast process at all. Way too many large companies involved.

Well heard back this morning.

He left me a voicemail - without looking at it he says, it’ll run around $3,000-$10,000…

I’ll let you guys guess what my decision is…

Yeah, I expected a number like that.

I will say I have an inground pool with wires running through my back yard. There’s probably at least a 10 foot buffer zone though around the pool. The pool has been there a while so who knows if it would even be allowed under current codes. I know if I have the skimmer pole extended and standing by the shallow end I’m always very aware of where the end of the pole is because the wires start getting close. Probably not the best design.
