Problem with Newman’s sig:
What if it was your father/uncle/brother/son/cousin that was falling from the tower? It’s not the image of the towers on fire, or the notion that the president is responsible for it that bothers me. It is the graphic image of a real person falling to their death. And maybe if one of your loved ones died in that attack, and possibly the same way, you would understand why it is completely tasteless.
BTW: The speaker shop wouldn’t take any of you to the upstairs if you are bitching about paying that kind of cash for speakers.
my little bit of opinion on the speakers:
who can tell me which car drives BETTER. a ferrari 360 (hardtop for arguments sake) or a 911 turbo (old style for same argument’s sake)
not alot of people here can…but the analogy i am trying to make (i am sorry if someone else made this same one, i could not read all the bullshit) is that the difference between the two cars is negligable. no realyy, argue all you want, but really when it comes down to it, they are very close chassis to chassis stock v stock etc.
so now everyone will bring in price and bang for buck blah blah blah. lets skip that, it has been done before, just do a search.
now ask someone, who’s first thrill ride of their lives when they were a kid was in a ferrari. or lets say someone who watched ferris buellers day off and saw cam’s dads car and that was their first “cool” car. for their money, the ferrari willprolly be the “better” car.
the point i am trying to make is that in the world of audio there is alot more left to interpretation than you think, and even more so than cars because there is no real way to put a speakers abilities down on paper.
everyones ear is different. everyone’s bedroom is different. cant compare two speakers fairly unless it is with the same source, same power and same position in a certain setting AT THE VERY LEAST.
i will say this. yes, usually the higher the price speaker the better the sound quality assuming you have the supporting cast. no sense having martin logan electrostatics with a shitty yamaha stack (before anyone goes there, i know yamaha makes some excellent stuff, which is why i said shitty, they do make stuff for cheap and you get what you pay for) people who say their 3k bundle package from best buy sounds better than any B&W bookshelves for the same price blah blah blah…well you are entitled to your opinion. all i am gonna say is if i were spending 3k, i would have done better research.
onto the final point: some people, just like collecting cars, dont care about the price, or price variation in comparison to competitors etc. some auido nuts buy entirely new/different/experimental setups to play their vinyl on, JUST BECAUSE THE TECHNOLOGY GIVES THEM A BONER. listening to music isnt listening to music anymore. their hobby is listening to the differences in the reproduction accuracy of everything. digital, stereo, 5 channel audio, 7 channel audio, dvd audio etc etc. there are people who have 50,000 dollar VHS players and will argue to the bone that video for video VHS is better than DVD (and in some cases they can be)
so is 100,000 really worth it? its all relative baby, and in more ways than one. fin
