Ridgeline vs Silverado

OK OK OK lets gets this straight. Its hard to compair them because the ridgeline sits on the odessey frame…making it a van? while the silverado is not a unibody…a truck.

BUT the ridgeline is very cool and for what i need it for it would do.
plus its honda so it will last.
The silverado is bigger, pulls more and i can probably get it cheaper but im sure it sux more gas then the ridgeline (thought they both say 16 and 20mpg)

Just wondering if anyone has driven the two and what they liked more

i plan on testing them both soon, just wondering what you guys thought

Ridgeline is nice. Honda puts forethought into product development. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

Which do you plan on hauling more.

A. People
B. Lots of random manly shit

I am a chevy guy, I love chevys but get the truck/van that suits you more and your needs. if it was between the chevy silverado and the ridgeline I would get the ridgeline, mainly because it is a nice Van like ride with the features of a truck.

This thread makes no sense to me because those aren’t two vehicles that should be cross shopped. It’s like saying you can’t decide between a 5 series and a 350z. Completely different vehicles.

Silverado:
Real truck. Real frame. Will tow haul lots of stuff without breaking a sweat or it’s transmission/suspension. Real truck gas mileage, real truck ride and handling. One of the better full sized real truck options based on recent reviews.

Ridgeline:
Minivan in truck’s clothing. It has a bed and will haul that big thing that you buy at Target/Lowes that won’t fit in your car’s trunk. It’s rated for 5k towing, but doesn’t tow 5k well from what I’ve read. Rides and handles like a minivan because at heart it is a minivan. One of the best trucks if you only need a psuedo truck, or “trucklette”. I’m seriously considering it’s sister vehicle, the Pilot, as a replacement for my Expedition since I don’t have the need for more than about 3500lbs towing.

Ever think about a Tundra??

My buddy just bought one and its impressive in every way. Just another option you might want to look at.

you really need to figure out if you NEED a truck, or just a car with a giant open trunk. once you do it will make this decision very easy.

so is an avalanche a truck?

GM cars blow (except vettes) but their trucks are top notch

yes, the avalanche is based on a modified silverado/tahoe frame. its a full ladder frame construction.

I would suggest a Tundra also. but is seems your comparing a midsize to a full size.

tundras too big and too much $…very nice though!

the ridgeline is nice because it doesnt ride like a truck but can bring home my drywall and plywood from depot etc. and seats 5
the silverado is nice because ill get a GM discount, seats 6 and can also bring home my drywall and plywood from depot etc.
PLUS the new silverados look amazing.
avalanche is awesome do to its mid-gate…but they are around 40k+

My roommate has a new Silverado, and at about 2800 miles is still getting right about 20 mpg. Compared to his '99 Silverado he had before this new truck, the new Silverado rides incredibly well…doesn’t feel like a ‘truck’ like manly people would expect. GM has their shit together…

I’ve ridden in a Ridgeline a few times with coworkers to lunch. Nice trucks, a bit ugly, but have some nice storage features. I’ve heard gas mileage was pretty poor with these too.

I owned a 01 Silverado HD 2500 w 6 liter, lots of little problems, If you buy a Chevy, get ready to live with piston slap. They all have it. Transmission range selector broke 2ce, towed to dealer, repaired under warranty. Both front window tracks broke, both in the winter, one up in Quebec when it was very very cold! I had to take door panel apart, fish window up & duct tape for the ride home. 4WD was very noisy, and wouldnt come out of 4wd unless you came to a complete stop. Cruise never worked right, had back to dealer many times for these problems & all they fixed was the window, the rest was “couldnt duplicate customers complaint at this time” No real storage behind the seat, nothing to speak of in the bed for tiedowns, etc.My best friend just bought a 07 1500 4x4, gets 14 mpg city, & 17 highway and yes, it knocks.
I now own a Titan, tows better, has way more power, tons of storage, lighted bed with power outlets and moveable tie downs. Rear window go’s up & down (excellent feature) I get 14 in the city & 17 highway.
Good luck with your choice…

While I agree with you that chevys have their problems. The new trucks are awesome and I think most people can agree that the domestic trucks have come a long way in reliablity

i cross shopped this exact combo. i looked at everything from a diesel package to a 4 cyl tacoma.

utility is hard to estimate which is why i think you saying this comparison is bunk a poor statement.

i decided ridgleine because of all the trucks i drove:

silverado, ext cab and 4 door
dodge ram, 4 door diesel, ext cab v8
toyota tacoma w 4 cyl, tundra V8(well it was a friends)
nissan frontier w/ nismo package or whatever
ford f-150 diesel and gas, ext cab and 4 door
new yota fj
jeep grand cherokee
jeep liberty
honda pilot

the ridgeline had the most backseat room (with the seats up. great dane fits with room to spare), rode most comfortable, had comparable, but not the best mileage, decent ability to be a “truck”, nicest interior with the exception of being somewhat minivan-ISH with the console completely retracted (i never have it all the way in).

i am a welder/business owner that hauls heavy shit SOMETIMES. this was the only truck in its class to qualify as a 5000+ lb gvw qualifying me to buy it and write it off. i put shit in the back, it gets scratched, beat on. THE HOOD GETS JUMPED ON (thanks itagaki). i haul steel and the bed holds up (didnt have to ay for rhino lining). i haul garbage and dirt and stupid shit, nothing gets in hinges or trapped under the tailgate (happens on other trucks and fucks them up) is this where i mention the tailgate opens both ways? i know, might not seem that handy, but i have grown to really love it when i go into the drainable insulated truck trunk to grab a beer/food/dead baby on ice

my point is i dont drive it like a minivan, and it has yet to make me think thats all it is. i love taking it on trips, i LOVE tailgating with it. other forums on here know what i mean. i hauled my 3600lb car with trailer and it had no issue other than ground clearance bacuse the trailers hitch could not adjust far enough. who cares, i scraped twice, big whoop.

in the other thread i was laughing so hard at those who made comments about unibody, fwd, etc. not everyone drives their “truck” as if it were a tool in their shed. meaning if you use the truck to haul everyday, or laod it close to its capacity, or tow often, well this truck is going to show its wear sooner (MAYBE, i have yet to have anything go wrong with mine).

true chevy/dodge/toyota/ford tow more, their v8’s get good gas mileage when not hauling. the interiors have even come leaps and bounds towards being comfortable and decent. BUT, the chassis built to haul more has more than likely a tougher time handling the expansion joints in the highway, small potholes, general road noise.

and the fact is, in that regard there are so many people who buy trucks capable of so much more than what they “use” it for. frequent or not, you cant justify a bigger chassis and larger motor for the one time you might help a friend tow a boat etc. the fact is so many people buy big trucks because their friends would make fun of them if they didnt. its a cock size thing.

fuck it

my honda tows
my honda has a bed that is tough
my honda is reliable
my honda is roomy
my honda’s gas mileage is good
my honda rides comfortable

ENOUGH for what 95% of people use the truck for. if i need to tow a boat somewhere i will call one of my friends with a small penis and borrow their truck to do it

Coming from someone that actually owns one of these trucks, and not just tossing in my 2 cents, I would say the Silverado is a great truck.

I bought mine brand new in 05 and have not had a single problem with it (Extended cab z71 1500). For me, its been the most practicle vehicle I could have ever bought. Its big enough to carry 4 adults, I can haul whatever I need, I can pull a trailer when needed, and it rides great be it for daily driving or on the thruway. I get 16mpg normal driving, 20+ highway.

Others will agree or disagree…It all depends on what you need out of the vehicle. For me, I’m very happy with the truck. I have 3 friends that own 1500’s with 5.3’s, and one with a 02’ 2500 w/6.0 and none of them ever had issues with their trucks.

ford f-150 diesel and gas, ext cab and 4 door

Diesels only come in 3/4 ton and 1 tons.

not half tons:baby::baby:

then add 250 to the list, it was lafengas’ fathers truck. i love them, but more than i needed by far

EDIT:

i am not knocking any of the other trucks. i am just clarifying that knocking the ridgleine for those reasons is silly.

for the record i love silverados. i love fords diesel. i dislike dodge, but thats personal, my dad has always owned them. the toyotas are great. but again, way more than i needed, well more than i needed for the 2% i use my truck
