Rifle Guys, Boom boom bang bang.

Guys, i’ve shot a lot of rounds through a .22, that’s not what I am looking for.

Still really torn on it but now all I want is a rock river arms, after having looked into it more. lol

Still if your set on an Ar I’d say do a little more looking and buy the parts to build one. It can all be done at your home minus pinning and welding a comp on. Unless the RRA really is exactly what your looking for then go for it. I have a RRA bcg and it’s been great so far.

You can buy steel .223 for 20 cents a round in bulk, its dirty, under powered but decent at 100 yards.

Seriously, You need to shoot them both and see what you will like better.
IMO I think there is alot more out there for the AR. Pull 2 pins and you can swap your upper all the way up to a beowulf .50 upper and single stack the .50 rounds in your .233 mag.

I think you would be happy with an AR of some sort.

Once again, to clarify… I have shot both.

Like stated before, I loved shooting my friends RRA AR with accesories, but his iron sight AK with dirt cheap ammo was also a fucking blast… but which one do I want to own and hold on to? The AR was like a fine woman, and the AK was like a dirty whore. I LOVED both… but which one will I love longer?

Part of me says buy a Saiga for dirt cheap compartively, and get in it for about $500-600

Part of me says buy an RRA and spend about a grand, with more room to grow… or try building my own for less…

Sounds like I can’t lose either way…

Again, I want to say the AR is way more customizable over the AK. If you want more fire power go up to a .308. If thats not enough go up to a .50. If thats not enough, sell it all and buy a tank.
I like Ak’s but I have way more fun with an AR.

You’ll be fine with either an AK or an AR its all about what you want to spend.

Then when you get bored shooting at 100 yards and you want to reach out and touch someone you can get a nice bolt action gun.

Mini 14?

dont steer him thw wrong way. the Ar platform is pretty accurate longer range. last fall i was out hitting 10" steel plates at 6 and 700 yards. the spring time I’m changing up optics and going for farther. And i will hopefully be buying a Rem 700 next year also

I was hitting 300 yards with a old bushnell scope I found in my grandpa’s basment. That reminds me I should read up on MOA again and get it fresh in my mind.

Yah well you know what I mean. The AR is a fine gun for sure, but if you really want to punch holes you’ll need something a little better. My next gun is a 700 5R…which will get highly modified haha.

I have the Savage .223 bull barrel with accu trigger. hit quarters @ 100 yds. with cheap ammo.

I’m on the waiting list for the SWS kits the Army has recently retired.

These are the beasties. Camo is the Remington R15 in .223. and the black / stainless is the 6.5 Grendel. The ballistics and range on this round are pretty impressive. They have developed their own website and many of the guys on there are thrilled with it’s performance. They’re about a buck a round, not as cheap as .223 but not as bad as Lapua’s. It’s a little larger bullet but with a lot more zing. I think we need to set up an NYSPEED shoot somewhere. I haven’t had a chance to shoot anything for over a year…and I don’t live near an IHOP.

I bought everything for the Grendel, except the lower and scope, from this company in Texas (http://www.model1sales.com/) It looks like they don’t carry the Grendel option but do have the 6.5 Sporter which is an earlier model of the caliber, and a little more popular. They also have .223 options and I’m kicking myself for not going with one of the Duracoat options. Again, I assembled mine with a friend of mine on his dining room table. He was a little out of practice but we did it in a couple hours (should’ve taken 1-1 1/4) and used little more than a gunsmith’s punch kit, screwdriver, and a towel. I want to say without the scope I have around 750.00 into it. Their 24" stainless bull barrel in .223 is only 600.00, and you can choose upgrade options. Also, they were awesome to deal with, friendly, delivered as promised right to my door.

Those R15s are soooo over priced IMHO.

I’m leaning towards dropping a grand on an RRA with a hard case, then pick up some pban mags online.

This will give me a solid (and overpriced im sure) platform to have for a long time and build off of.

I still have plenty of time to weigh things out… but that’s kind of where my heads at currently.

Yikes. Those must be cheap. Scares me to think they make a mag for those.

They don’t  mod a follower and use existing pre ban 30 round mags

Find ammo for a beowulf 50. I dare you.

Right on the Alexander Arms site has 200 round cases in stock for $239
