Ripping a DVD to a format for itunes

I just picked up Apple TV and Im pretty happy with it so far.

Im trying to build up a kids library of movies so I dont have to keep opening and closing DVDs all the time.

Theres a older Garfield DVD that was purchased a few years back that I want to burn and place into my itunes but Im having problems ripping it. I use the program Handbrake but for some reason this DVD is coming out all digitized and not working properly.

What do you guys use to rip DVDs and what format do you rip them to for Apple TV?

Thanks

Apple TV 2 or 3?

Apple TV3

I was going to suggest jailbreaking it and having to avoid itunes altogether, but no can do on ATV3.

Rip to M4V?

Handbrake doesn’t have anything to circumvent the encryption which is what you’re running into.

Back when I was ripping DVD’s constantly (with my unlimited blockbuster online sub) I’d always download the latest dvdfab and use that. Never ran into a copy protection the latest release couldn’t handle. I see that they now have a dedicated ripper called “DVDFab Ripper” that sounds like exactly what you need.

I’m sure it can be found for free in the shady corners of the web.

MP4 format is what you want for videos. Circumventing the copy protection… I have no clue, try Jay’s suggestion.

Actually you don’t need DVDFab… just use makemkv to circumvent the encryption it will copy the movie whole sale into a mkv file (no compression or changing the video stream)

Then you can use Handbrake on that mkv file to make it itunes friendly.

^ Or you could do it in one step with dvdfab.

DVDFAb is a piss poor ripper, it lacks the control of Handbrake and why warez or pay if you are inclined too for something that can be easily for free.

double

Thanks guys. I tried out a few programs and I like “DVD Decrypter” probably the best.

I copy the DVD using that to make a mKv file. Then use handbrake to turn the mKv file into a m4v file for itunes
