I’ve been out of the game for a while and every time I search for a program I can’t find anything easy to use that don’t do exactly what I want. I am looking for a good, preferably free, program to rip dvd’s to my hardrive. I just got the Samsung DVD player with the USB drive on the front so I want to rip all of my dvd’s. I also want to start using Media Center and save all of my movies to my hard drive. Also, what file type is good to save as? avi? DIVX? MPEG? Thanks in advance.
DVDFab works better IMO, just switched from DVD shrink to this and it works great…does it quickly too!
What file type should I be ripping these to save on my hard drive for Win MCE?
The default is the VIDEO_TS folder with the .vob files. I’m not sure what file type to use natively though.
No idea what format for windows ce, but for a regular computer I rip to ISO then use a virtual drive program to play the files.
You will need a copy of DVD43 running in the background for DVDSHINK to work on many of the newer titles. Many studios changed the encryption scheme and shrink doesn’t work all the time.

anydvd ftl, I installed it and it fucked up my dvd burner drivers. I’ve used it in the past but I’m pretty sure DVDFab removes copyright also since I just burned the new family guy star wars episode with no problem.
DVDFab
If you stay on top of the updates I’ve never found a DVD it couldn’t rip. No need to run separate programs to disable copyright, great compression to fit the entire disk on a DVD-R, super simple to copy just the movie and 5.1 audio tracks cutting out all the extras and other languages so you usually don’t need compression.
Plus is has a whole bunch of DVD->mobile options so you can rip DVDs to avi, mpg etc.
What’s a good virtual drive program to use?
Daemon Tools Lite hands down.
Make sure your grabbing the lite version.

I downloaded and installed (following the directions) and it works flawless.
I’ve never had a single problem with it. I’ve been running it for years. It does ever DVD and never once gets caught up on copyright protection or anything else :gotme:
