Road rally for spring?

EVENT IS POSTPONED - UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE EVENT IS POSTPONED
Due to just about everything under the sun we have decided to postpone the evnt to later in the spring. I will give a date asap.

Feeler, for road rally in conjunction with some of the area dealers. My manager and I (he’s our old vw rep) wan’t to put on a road rally/poker run for some time in april/may. We will need help to run the event as well as man outposts, etc. He’s willing to put up the trophy’s/prizes for the event. P.m. me if you wan’t to help or if you can help organize before the event. I also wan’t to invite all the other clubs in the area ca-va, Shift518, rspeed etc. All are welcome.

I’d be interested, but it obviously depends on when and where

I will gladly promote and participate.

Are bikers allowed? I have strong connections with local bike groups and could get quite a turnout. Plus unlike car people, they actually love to go out and use their machines whenever possible :tong

I would like to know more about the rally however.

Distance, locations, road types, photoshoots? (Shift518 will provide photo coverage, I also have a variety of video equipment to get footage).

I will design a course that will take approx. 2-2.5 hours i think, depending on the roads. They will all be secondary type roads with little or no traffic. Only problem with bikes is that some of the roads may be unfinished or even dirt. I don’t see why we can’t though, possibly pick better roads. We can pick a charity of some sort and donate the proceeds to them, maybe advance our credibility in the community. Obviously i have asked for help from my home site ca-va.org. As we have done this type of thing in the past, so with a little more help this time we can make it bigger and better. Gran massa any help would be greatly appreciated and maybe we can eventually put the animosity between us, behind us.

I would have no problem bringing my bike down, and a maybe a few brave friends, if the path still has some dirt roads, but I can’t bring on more people. If you would like to discuss the road plan, and take a test drive of the route, closer to the date, we can check it out.

Did not even know about the ca-va.org… is that your personal site?

I will also get in touch with byron (byroll) since he has put on some very successful cruises in the past, and has good experience with them.

P.S. you have a very wierd spelling of “want” in the first post :confused

What would the prizes be for? Would it be a pay2play event? What charity? Would you like news coverage?

capital area volkswagen audi is our site, not mine personally but our vw/audi club. I can get with byron as well, see if he will be available. Problem is it will probably be a saturday event. T.v. coverage would be awesome if we can get it. I was thinking of a 10 or 15 dollar entry fee, or 10 dollars and a can of food for the local food pantry etc. Anything would be ok as long as it’s a local charity. Prizes would be supplied by my dealer i would expect i’ll ask and see.

The route ideally should end up at some kind of popular local town restaurant or diner, where we could all eat and chat, or at the very least an imporptu (sp?) launch break where people will bring their own food.

I know a few people in the news, and I can use the paper leverage to do a story on us (I’m not expecting actual TV coverage, but maybe a mention in PM news), and us donating the proceeds to a charity (and cans) would help greatly in getting a news story.

I understand about providing of prizes, but what would they be given for?

Depending on how many people we get, we should have two groups, with two leaders in case we get broken up by an unforseen event, a meetup spot in case of said separation, and printed out maps/rules for everybody to have.

I’m down for helping to organize.

Vlad, IIRC, a poker run is when you drive to five different places and get a card from each place. Person with the best hand at the end of the day is winner.

would tv coverage generate too much attention? I know poker runs and cruises don’t promote speeding and street racing, but you know there will be ton of people that think it does and I could see a bunch of shit coming from it. I may be completely wrong since I’ve never organized or participated in one. Thoughts?

I’ve done this a few times and never had any problems. We should be fine, we give the prizes to the best poker hands.

I’m all in, hopefully with a project far enough completed to run.
It’d be a good opportunity to get out and get comfortable with the car

Sounds like its goin to be a blast

i’m in tom… i’d be willing to help participate. ca-va.org… hmm i’ve never heard of that :banana

I’m going to get a memo ready for news companies, and if the day is slow enough they will send somebody down.

im down. i can help with whatever aspect is needed.

shit, i might even RIDE

one thing you COULD do is to make some sort of an agreement, like a waiver, saying that by signing and agreeing to participate in the poker run, you are going to abide by all local, state, and federal laws. that way, if they do something stupid, nothing can be associated with the poker run

I have a form we’ve used before that covers all that noise.

excellent.

That would be useful…especailly with the bike/honda group…lol

Yea, those damn honda owners, ::slight_smile:

Still working on route, but should have it finalized by this or next weekend.
