Tap what ??? As long as your good and right size bit your good . Besides most places don’t even put the set screws back in anyway lol
I’m not putting the screws back in haha. I think the lugs will do the job just fine.
It only hardens it if you heat it then cool it quickly. If you heat it and let it slowly cool, it will soften the metal (this is talking just your run of the mill steel). Just a couple weeks ago I have to drill out 8 M8 set screws and it was a nightmare at first. Threw some heat at them til they were cherry red, let them cool, and they drilled like butter.
