i know this topic has been discussed many times but i couldnt find a thread with the same exact symptoms so please dont start rippen into me, i just need some help.

ok. so, i’ll be driven and comin to a stop at a light and my idle will be solid at about 1100? then after a bit it will drop down to about 850 and be really rough. hard to explain without a video but its not a solid vmmmmm, its rough, its shaky and all over, sounds like its gunna cut out but it keeps goin, i havnt stalled but it feels like it wants too. i’ve been told it idles like a muscle car or somethn, like i got cams? but i dont lol

any help is greatly appreciated, thanks guys

edit: i have an s13 sr20det redtop

Vac leak? I know mine idles shitty, and that’s exactly my problem. Vac leak.

Leave it, makes your car sound meaner

ya, but it seems like the idle is stickin at like 1100 - 1200, then drops down to proper idle, its really botherin me lol

Mine idles shitty, and will rev itself up to about 1500RPM to gain some vac, then drop back down… Boost gauge is reading almost zero vac in my case though…

Spray TB cleaner into IACV tube to clean the IACV, ensure TB is clean, ensure no vacuum leaks anywhere, make sure MAF looks clean (no oil residue), triple-check grounds and battery terminals/connections etc.

Good luck.

whats IACV? where is it located? any pics? i allready cleaned my throttle body and maf sensor. i guess the IACV is it then

The IACV is your idle control valve, if & when it sticks or gets dirty it can cause intermittent idle issues. It should be the hose that comes off your cold pipe right near the throttle body on an SR I believe, not positive (SR guys can chime in).

Spraying TB cleaner towards it tends to clean it & usually resolves it’s sticking (car may choke or take two or more tries to start initially, which is fine).

Your issue could be that, or one of many others related to ignition or fuel etc…just keep checking one thing at a time.
