router

I am buying one…anyone got good suggestions and places where they are cheapest…I like the Belkin ones, they seem to have good reviews from what I’ve read and spoke with a few peeps about…but I know there are some IT guys on this site that could recommend something specific

this is the one that finally died on me, so prefer to not have to buy another linksys, they all seem to have problems from my limited experience with them…

I’ve had a Linksys router die on me as well, firmware went out after a storm, but that’s common place with a power surge.

I’ve noticed most of the networking stuff you find in a retail place like Best Buy etc is very much the same as the other brand. I’ve had pretty good luck with D-Link stuff.

Wal*mart was about 30% less than best buy when I bought my last one.

Gotta say though, went through 3 linksys thet would not work, finally bought a Belkin and hav never llooked back…

linksys factory firmware sucks…the box itself isn’t bad…i have the wrt54g with custom firmware…never went out and it’s been here for a few years now

Buy it online.

i actually have that router. if you want to buy it.

val
i bought this… you can flash it with the utility in the link and it’s baller… it won’t ever go down… i heard the oem software isn’t that bad either. it’s wireless G though… make sure your wireless card supports it.

newegg.com ftw

the best DLink you can afford.

I had a Belkin that lasted a little under 6 months and I didnt even use the wireless for more then a few days.

Stick with Linksys or Dlink for home routers.

from newegg they are all the same price…they are all like 50 bux?

so what’s the difference between the G, GL, GS

and why is this one so cheap:

I just need something that didn’t break like my last one, I mean it can’t connect to the internet at all, plus my dog chewed the box a little (no damage to the board inside or anything, so I doubt he broke it) But, my computer is G-card ready, I just want to use my lap top around the house…

The newegg one is so cheap because it’s a switch only, it would need an additional router in order to get the computers online.

About $50 is right around where they are right now.

GS is most likely the “Speed booster” version of the router…honestly stick with G…the speed booster is really useless…you’ll never utilize even the full throughput of the regular G…you may get close with local file transfers between machines but even then…G works just fine. And plus that technology is even more useless if u don’t have the necessary hardware for the laptop

xlogic is now the Pittspeed IT master. I will no longer field computer questions on this forum.

ill sell you mine for 50 and you can meet me in box
