Running cold- Thermostat?

Some background first, I recently had some work done to my car, new headgasket etc etc. Because I had a problem with overheating before I had a shroud made up to go on my rad, along with my electric fans.

Anyway following the work I had the coolant flushed, and since then I have noticed my car running cold even with the fans off. It takes an absolute age to warm up with the fans off, like 10 min kind of long and does not always stay up at operating temperature. If the car is at operating temp and I coast down a long hill, or have the fans on at idle etc the temperature drops down to only one notch above cold, to almost cold and it takes a while to get back to temp again after.

Just wondering if this would be a sign that my thermostat was stuck open, and if so is there a way to check that without having to drain the whole damn thing down again? If it is the thermostat, does anyone know what would replace the one on a CA18det? Thank you

Same thing happend with me after my recent coolant flush. Although it seems to warm up and stay warm recently with no fluctuations.

sounds like a thermostat…my car was doing something of the same nature last year.

thermostat is the same as a ca18de (88 nissan pulsar nx 1.8 ) but oddly enough the gasket that came with mine didn’t even come close to matching up. gasket maker that shit

its definitely the thermostat stuck open. i’ve seen this happen in so many cars brought over from japan (including mine).
