running problems/ backfiring

well heres the scoop… i drive a 98 camaro v6 3.8L engine… 87,xxx miles…

today im driving my car and it starts to back fire so im like hmm maybe bad gas… so im driving all day and i start to notice my temp gauge go up to 240ish then back down to 180 and back up and on and on… the car smells really bad and takes off terrible and just back fires all the way down the road.

the check engine light went off, took it to autozone and they said the code was back firing which i knew that…

anyone have any ideas what it could be?

Is it leaking anything?

a backfiring code? new to me.

Not sure what to think of the smell thing. Maybe running rich, not too familar with GM fuel systems though.

Could be telling you it needs a V-8 though.

head gasket? loose head stud?

:word:
Have someone who knows what’s they’re doing run a diagnostic… backfiring code? :bloated:

Bad spark plug, bad plug wires, bad head gasket, too vague…

its misfiring… i had a girl at autozone do it so she probably didnt know what she was talking about, my friend ran one and it said misfiring…

…and hopefully a ls1 will b in it soon but from what i have heard its probably my spark plugs and wires…

im going to check it out later today and see whats up

Thats what I thought.

i changed the plugs and wires, what a pain… and it still continued… then i bought new coil packs and its all better
