the truck has a 350with a large cam in it , and the peoblem iam having is when you floor the gas it bogs down for a second or two then goes like a bat out of he** ,would a Carburetor Spacer help with this problem?
no, a smaller cam would help though.
depends on the intake, the size of the carb, and the type of the spacer, but most likely no it wont help. if it’s a dual plane intake, use a 4hole spacer to increase the signal to the boosters. what kind of carb is it?
intake is a Weiand X-CELerator ,and a Edelbrock Performer 600cfm
sounds like either your not getting enough fuel from the accelerator pump, or your secondaries are opening to soon. if it’s the secondaries, and it’s a quadrajet, on the pass. side where the rod is, there is a set screw that is underneath. loosen it. then there is a screw to turn to set preload. if i remember correcttly, it should be set around 7/8ths of a turn. or from where it is now, just turn it 1/4 turn and try it. if this was the problem it should cure the famous bog from the quadra bog carb. if it’s a edelbrock or a carter, these rarely are a problem and i would say time for a rebuild. if it’s a holley, check the engine vacuum. the power valve number should be less than the enginevacuum while idleing in gear. then try a stiffer secondary spring. or try going up on the shooter size. stock should be around 25, try a 31 then a 37.if that don’t work you could try a 50cc pump kit, but that’s almost to much for a 350. i’m no expert, since i have a bog i can’t cure. next step for me is a new carb.
is the carb new or well worn. your intake would be a singal plane, intake. and you have the right size carb. if the carb is well worn, you may not be getting enough fuel from the excellerator pump. try rebuilding it. might need bigger squirters. if it’s new, do you have an airleak? or try tuning the secondary springs.
a little more info would make sense, don’t you think?
carb is probably beat… float sticking? being that you just got it back, you have no idea on maintence of it? do you?
might as well get a dominator 750… :kekegay:
how lopey is the cam? Is it just a little big or is it overcammed by a good bit?
a single plane intake and a big cam will kill the low end bigtime, rebuilding the carb probably won’t do much.
you’re probably not creating enough vacumn with the big cam and throwing off the carb a little bit.
but what do I know - I just put a holley 3310 (750 cfm) onto a stock 390.
my dads holley 650 double pumper is just taking up space in the garage if anyone is interested. I can see how much he wants for it.
i want the the 650!!!
the 600 edelbrock is fine for a 350. especially one with just a cam. how big is the cam, but i don’t think it’s the problem. there are only 2 things that will do it, and with out me sitting in the truck when it happens i can’t tell you which it is. the edelbrock is a foolproof carb, rarely does it need tweeked after putting it on, unless it was used and sat for awhile. if it sat for awhile, there’s a chance the plunger for the excellerator pump dried out slightly and your not getting a full shot of fuel.
