s13 seat rails - cat hump - lower!

So basically I solid mounted my sparco evo 2 last year, and it was a bitch. I used the side mounts and sparco rails, but i basically cut up the rails and modified the whole thing, so that the seat was literally on the rails, no gap anywhere.

I m 6’ tall, and with my helmet on, i have like less then a inch of clearance between me and my roof. Thats after taking the padding out from the bottom section of the seat.

Since its winter, I’ve been researching ways to get my seat lower, and i’ve come to the conclusion that i have to remove the catalytic converter hump that sits under the seats, by cutting it out or hammering the shit outta it, so that i can mount rails or solid mount directly to the floor.

I just wanted to see if anyone else on here has done it, I only have one reference from a guy on Zilvia to go by.

To summarize…

I want to cut out the cat hump, so i have a flat floor up to the cross brace. And then weld slider rails to the actual floor, to give me an extra 2-3 inches of clearance, and to get me substantially lower. Anyone else done it?

It is not just the cat hump which is the problem. the seat mounting bolt at the front inside is also higher. You have to modify the cross support.

DO NOT mount the seat to the floor without adding bracing

Yea i was looking at doing something similar to this thread .

If you scroll down to halfway through the second page you can see pics of what im talking about.

I was thinking of doing that, yet somehow incorporating a design that would allow for me to use sliders. I would like to be able to move the seat forwards and backwards, at least a little bit. As my driving position is different at the track then it is on streets. Mostly because i remove the cushion supports in my seat when im at track.

If you weld up something simular, and remove the front mount to replace it with the new lower one you can keep it moveable. Do not use that style of Kirkey seat if you want it to be moveable. Those seats are supposed to have support on the back to the harness bar

Yea i want to use my sparco evo 2, not kirkey. I was thinking of making my own front mount, and then having the bridge rails attach to that.

Is that frame rail really structural, or would a smaller square stock rail do the job just as well.

yes it is structural. You will want to keep the height of the outside mount, or you will lose the recline of the seating position. That is also where you will mount your sub strap mount.

is your car still a street car? Is the cat gone? You will need to put heat insulation on the bottpm side of the car as well

well sparco evo seriies seats are sidemount, so the recline is based on how u bolt the seat onto the sidemounts. I was thinking of placing a frame behind the structural frame, and directly bolting a rail to that, or just directly mounting seat to that.

Car is a street car, there is however a little space there for a flat floor. And yeah your right, i will definitely need some insulation from the heat the cat produces.
