The guy is selling the seats without any mounting frame/rails/etc. as the seats weren’t out of an S14.
I’m wondering what my best option is for mounting the seats without having to go buy the rails, sliders, etc. from Sparco. I have a buddy that could modify the stock mounting frame to accept the seats, so that I retain all the functions of the original seats. If I do that, I’d probably have to cut the frame and lower the seat, as well as possibly drill new holes to make the bolt locations line up, etc.
I’d just like to know what some people have done in the past when mounting bottom-mount seats like this.
Does anyone know the measurements between the mounting locations for the rails onto a stock 95 S14 seat, and the measurements between where the rails bolt to the bottom frame?
I can’t get them myself right now, because the car is still in Toronto, waiting to get shipped out here.
If anyone has some advice, I’d like to hear it.
Thanks.
So it looks like the bottom measurements are 13.5" width by 11" length.
I wonder if those length’s match closely with the S14 stock rails?
If so, they would theoretically bolt into the car, and may just need some adjustment to sit low enough?
If anyone knows the stock dimension, let me know please.
Here are some pics.
How big a dude are you Jonathan? For a guy looking to autocross or track this car, I don’t think you’ll be happy with these seats. I think you’ll want a decent side-mount bucket for both better support and additional helmet clearance.
Yeah I thought about that, but I know what a bucket seat is like for a DD, and the car will only be a “track car” one day a week.
I’m an “average” size, probably 5’ 11" 175lbs, so I fit in most seats well.
If I found a deal on some Sparco EVO 2’s or Pro 2000’s or something, I would scoop them up, but I’m not quite in a position to drop major $$ on seats right now. These are $700, which is a pretty good price, considering the car needs an upgrade regardless.
I’m not sure how helmet room will be, I’m coming out of a Boosted Maxima with the stock leather’s this season, and I had no problems. I assume that I’ll need some fab. with any aftermarket seat that I choose.
The problem is finding a set at a decent price.
A buddy of mine bought an Evo 1 for $300 this year, and another got 2 Pro 2000’s or EVO 2’s for $700. You don’t typically find those prices very often.
I’m not partial to either type of seat, right now I’ve just exhausted my budget with the car & the track wheels/r-comps.
If anyone has seats for sale, let me know, I’m open to offers.
Maxima’s have exponentially more headroom that our 240’s. I have had reclinables in my car and they were just too high. Perhaps if you were prepared to get mediaval on your floor you could get them down…but a side moount bucket on bride rails is really the only good option for a guy 5"11"
I’d sooner just have a bucket out and swap it in on track days than run those sparcos full time. Just my opinion though.
Thanks for the advice Dan, that’s what this thread was posted for.
You guys have done this before, I haven’t, so it’s good to hear some good advice.
So you’re thinking Side-mount only for the seats.
Do they keep any sliding functions, or do they typically bolt in stationary?
I guess you can get different types?
I’ve had both Sparco fixed side mounts - no sliding (w/ Sparco Evo II Plus) and now have Bride sliding sidemounts (w/ Recaro Profi SPG). The brides are great and can get you as low as possible without doing any body modifications.
Farmer on the other hand has Sparco fixed bases with Spaco Evo III but he cut and notched his tranny tunnel to allow for a flat mount. His seats are probably as low as any seat can go but his car is setup for him and him alone. Also, he did this to his race car and I would not recomend getting that agressive with the clean chassis you just bought.
Yeah a friend of mine is 6’8" and owns a DSM, as well as an AE86 Targa car.
He modified his floors in the Talon to fit a fixed-mount EVO I, but noone else can drive the car now. Similar situation with the set of Pro-2000’s in the AE86.
I’d like to maintain the useability of the car, and that’s why I was thinking about going with a “less agressive” seat.
Maybe I’ll just save some $$ for a while and look into the Bride rails.
Peter had mentioned that he once had a Sparco seat & rails in the car, and he didn’t like it. How much do the Bride rails typically go for?
Yeah, it’s pretty steep when you need a set of 2.
Have you (Or anyone reading this thread), ever modified the stock rails + mounts to give you the proper height?
with stock rails you wont get this seat to sit low, even then its going to be a bit of a hack job to make it work.
I recommend like Dan mentioned. Use the stock seats for DD and install a bucket for the auto X. The 700 you spend on these seats can get you a good bucket and seat rails.
I ran my Honda Accord like that. Stock seats for DD, then a bucket for the track. Swapping it wasnt bad at all.
How are the Bride Brix seats? They’re bottom mount, so I guess they’re ghey high as well? There are a few FS around the forum. I want to upgrade the seats that are in the car regardless, they look like they’ve seen their day.
Peter, I sent you an e-mail on Saturday, when you get some answers on the scheduling & such, can you reply to that so that I know when everything will be going on. I’d like to arrange a drop-off for those wheels. I’d also like to know more about that spare engine if possible.
I used to have a chubby for the torino’s too. Especially the black ones with the grey inserts to match the door inserts on the Kouki, but yeah, they don’t hold much better than stock s14’s.
I will be doing the bucket for track days and stock for daily… It will be a small pain, but worth it for a good seat for everything.
What seat are you going to be swapping in/out?
I think a run of the mill Sparco would suffice i.e. one of the EVO’s or the Pro 2000’s.
Although I’m still going to need to have sliding ability for the co-driver, so might as well do it proper the first time.
I’m just running a Sparco speed… definitely lower end, but it’s super comfy heh… I have Recaro sliders (from Peter K actually) that I have custom fitted to the Sparco and will be making a custom base as soon as the car is up and running again.
