When im driving 4 a little the engine just shuts off. for instance when im on the hwy around 3000rpm all of a sudden the engine shuts off instantly and rpm goes to 0. When i try to start it, it wont start for 5-15 minutes. this is happening to me constently so i checked for spark after it shut off on me and there was no spark. So does this mean distributor or something else. Its a s13 KA engine.
Please help me out thanks.
Sounds like it could quite possibly be your fuel pump or it’s grounding/connections. Common problem apparently too.
Check your:
- Distributor Rotor
- Distributor Cap
- Fuel pump (as mentioned but then you said you have no spark)
- Bad grounds (check your fuse panel for any blown fuses)
thanks guys i’ll try that out now.
If when you’re trying to turn it over and nothing works (clock, starter, radio) then your battery has acid or corrosion on the connecting things.
I’ve had the same problem where the car wont start for about 10minutes to - an hour and then it will.
get a wire brush and clean that stuff off
My mistake, missed the part about no spark…listen to these guys.
ok i got the distributor out, now how could i tell if its good or not? when i opened the cap of the distributor i saw the spark plug wires like brownish and dirty is that a sign of a bad distributor? the wires were originally blue.
You took the distributor out? :noes:
Make sure you know how to put it back in and how to align it as well as
time it (you’ll need a timing light for this).
Check your ignition coil connection also, the “5th” wire coming out of your distributor. This could be your problem…loose connection/corroded/etc.
