Pic does suck but that looks awesome!
Yup, love this one
Shit yes, sorry I don’t know exactly why I didn’t respond right away but I did. I need to look back. That day was a crazy one at work and got me off track.

If anyone wants and agrees, post a photo of your car. I’ll put a name next to each car on the first post so we know who is with what car when we see them. I’ll start it off with mine on the OP.
who puts their s2000 away for the winter lol
Minorities.
That’s what I’m saying! More than 3/4 people on here shouldn’t put their car away for winter!
You can use this for me. How it sits right now =P
my pos even though you will only ever see me if you go to carlisle

that diffuser
lol
I’m replacing the top right now - got the old one off without cutting or mangling anything in about 2 hours, dunno what everybody is on about it being a pain in the ass and taking days… they only “weird” tools you need is a rivet gun and a right angle ratcheting screw driver ($5 at HF).
Please tell me you’ve taken a few pictures? If not, if you are still working on it, if you can… that would be great. I think I’ll be doing this next year.
Largely following this write up:
It is pretty good but he’s using some electric impact driver on some plastic bits and mangles plastic fasteners, much easier to do those slowly with a regular 'ol screwdriver. They only need like 2-3 turns.
He also pries the fabric out of the bows with a flat blade- don’t do that - if you give fabric a bit of slack it comes out no problem.
Slicing the top off might make it a little bit easier to get to some screws, but I don’t see a point risking slicing the wiring harness or the back straps to save maybe 30 seconds.
Having a nice high speed drill and a sharp bit makes dealing with rivets a snap (its a pun, get it ). He talks about melting stuff - can’t imagine that happening with good tools my drill takes out the rivets in 2 seconds - not enough time to heat up.
Oh also having a panel removal tool is good for a bunch of clips, rather then prying at them with a screwdriver and messing up the panels.
^ After reading that I’m not surprised people are “afraid” to change them. Sounds like the OP had no idea what he is doing.
Upholstry is a different “world” when it comes to tools. Get the right tools and the jobs are easy. I can change out most seat covers in an hour.
See that’s the thing, unlike some other cars I’ve seen (cough Porsche) - there’s not much, if any, upholstery work or tools involved in doing the top on the s2k. It is mostly just regular old “wrench turning” on an interior. I’ve done seats before and this is easier: no hog rings, no adhesives (well some double sided tape), materials are more robust/tolerant.
Do you mind me asking the cost of this repair? What you are reusing and what you had to purchase to get a full back to factory repair.
That makes sense. It could also be that the guy doing his top replacement just didn’t give a shit.
Common sense goes a long way.
what top did you go with? the EZ one? Im waiting to see if my clutch holds my power before i spend the money on the top. i’ve always gotten water in my trunk but im not sure if it’s because my top leaked or because my spoiler gaskets were screwed up. i replaced the gaskets and siliconed everything on the spoiler so hopefully that was the problem. hopefully too my top unwrinkles itself as it’s been done for the past 4 months
