:mamoru: When my output fades, I can spend 5 minutes changing a easily accessible bulb.

I have heard of some problems with plasmas and video games(burn in), are any of them true. Also I am not sure how fast moving objects in video games will be on a those DLP, the old tube projections stank for games

a friend of mine has had an EA Sports logo on his 50" screen for 3-4 months now. :mamoru:

:bloated: 3 yr warranty FTW here.
Even outside of warranty, the DLP bulbs are only ~$180. You must really not like your money. :gotme:
Alright, so the black grass definitely did scare me, especially because you notice it in low light conditions where I will mostly be watching TV. I ended up going with the Sony 42" (plus it was $50 cheaper). Holy Shit! You don’t realize how big TV’s are until you get it in your house…
Yeah, and fuck the extended warranty…
Well, I’ve been waiting for mad long and really want a TV right now. Both TV’s are $999… The Black Grass effect does scare me but it doesn’t seem to be effecting everyone.
If the warranty is anything more than $150 I definitely won’t be getting it.
Also I plan to be doing a lot of gaming on this, otherwise I would look into getting a plasma.

the black grass is because its an entry level tv, and they used a shitty screen material (only used on the 42") so they could hit a price point. pop into circuit city, i got my 46" out of a box for 300 under the sale price they had, and then got the extended warranty. if you have a bulb problem, or even if you dont :snky: call in and they will mail you a new one
if you’re going to spend the loot, dont cut corners. you will end up regretting it in the end. oh, and the 46" is actually “slimmer” (i dont think thats a word) than the 42", and only 1-2 thicker than a plama or lcd on a stand.
if you’re a gamer, and are worried about playing xbox or ps2 on it dont sweat it. i have have had no issues with lag, and i dont use game mode.
i think the 46 might have been discontinued just recently, and they are pushing the 50", so you should be able to get a great deal on it.
edit: just saw you went with the sony. good call on the warranty, the blue lcd seems to be an issue with that set… it was the set i almost went with, but got the 46 dlp instead.

tis true… good thing i’ll have a larger fam room in a week or two.

ehhh… could of gotten yourself a few extra bulbs. i bought my dlp in sept/nov and already ordered a spare (free). i’ll backup another one or two before it expires - basically covering me for 15 years. That alone is worth the warranty $, let alone if i actually need service.
They claim 23.5 years is the average now.
yea they have improved the lifetime of them by ALOT

we both misread.
you - he bought the sony lcd projection tv, not the dlp
me - he said yeah, fuck the warranty, and fuck yeah i got the warranty.
you should had back to the store and get that extended warranty asap!
you will thank me when one of your lcds takes a shit.

i dont know how much water that holds. have they been around for 23.5 years and left on that long? obviously not because i would have had one a long time ago

fucking word.
my friend bought the 50" SXRD a few months back, and has already had it in for service.
something about the light block…
repairs would have been $1100.
free because of warente.
