My bro got satellite radio like a month or so ago and he tells me its really good. maybe i’ll pick it up sometime
i’m contemplating buying it for the talk radio alone
:word:
sirius is great for talk radio, but the talk radio stations are where the commericals are. sirius music is commerical free but the playlists get repeated every 15 or 20 songs. ive listened to left of center and alt nation for hours at a time on road trips and it would just repeat the same songs over and over again. boo.
werd… if I were to buy one, that would be my selling point as well. lol my friends think I’m a geek cause talk > my radio
sirius rocks.
i hope they post up good earnings numbers next week :ohnoes:
O&A > Howard
Thanks for another worthless post about that… I was expecting it to come from JaysGreenLX, but for once he has surprised me.
lol
.
:flipoff:
Why does every satellite radio discussion have to devolve into a Stern vs. O&A arguement?
Take away both of them from their respective companies, and what do you have left? How is the content on XM vs. Sirius if you are there for something other than Stern or O&A? How about some intelligent discussion for once instead of these little one-line opinions that contribute nothing?
the content from both companies other than Howard and O&A is pretty much the same.
I have both XM and Sirius. I prefer XM because of the larger playlists and better sound quality (not only through a receiver but also through an internet connection). I mostly listen to Ethel and 202 on XM and Alt Nation, Shade 45 and Howard 100 & 101 on Sirius. I drove cross country in December and listened to Sirius. It was annoying hearing the same songs 5 or 6 times a day.
not a chance in hell
sirius has, just in the genre that i typically listen to:
Shade 45
G-unit radio
clinton sparks
dj kay slay
dj envy
dj whoo kidd
the aphilliates(sp?)
dj self
bum squad dj’s
dj noodles
thats all i can think of right now, although i know there is more. its just early and i cant think yet.
and what makes these different in content? XM has every genre covered too.
Here’s another feature I’ve discovered about satellite radio that rules… you can set memory presets so that the radio will alert you when one of your favorite artists or songs is on. No more channel hopping to see if that favorite song is on…
I think the genres are almost the same if you look at the channel lineup side-by-side for the most part, especially if you listen to pop or rock, where they are pretty much identical. Then again, Pop and Rock stations are not exactly hard to come by.
Where Sirius is different is bringing in big-name DJs and hosts to their respective stations. For example, the 80’s pop station is hosted by the well-known MTV VJ’s from the 80’s, such as Martha Quinn. Backspin 43 (classic hip hop) is hosted by Kurtis Blow. Boom Box has Grandmaster Flash, Kool DJ Red Alert, Liquid Todd, and DJ Icey, and of course, Shade 45 is supposedly Eminem’s station, though I don’t know how much hosting he actually does, I guess he’d be more of the “program director”. Area 33 does “invasions” with sets from DJs from all over the world. When these DJs are on, the normal playlists are out the window and I hear alot of stuff that is new to me.
Also curious, does XM get BBC Radio 1?
Envy and Kay Slay are 2 of the most annoying and worst DJs ever
XM has snoop dogg radio
That being said,
anything is better than terr. radio
u said it just right
So I just did a quick search, and found out my sound quality gripes with Sirius are NOT my imagination. Why people disagree with me may be due to Sirius using differing amounts of bandwidth for each station. So those of you who only listen to the “popular” stations probably are getting a better feed than me, who is listening to BBC Radio 1, and the electronic stations.
Right now I’ve got a RealAudio stream playing off of BBC Radio 1’s website, at 46kbps and it sounds better than the Sirius feed. Now that really sucks.
Oh yeah, here’s a thread where I found some information to back up my findings…
