I’ve been in SF for 6 weeks now and I just realized that I have yet to set any terrestrial radio stations in my truck. Satellite radio is absolutely the future.
I find it ironic b/c I was one of those doubters/haters - never believing that pay radio would be a sucessful business model. But now that I have a subscription, my priorities have changed.
Cell Phone w/ Data
Broadband Net connection
Satellite Radio (specifically Sirius b/c of Howard)
Usenet
Paid television
Warcraft
Blockbuster/Netflix
After listening to Satellite for over a month, I cannot accept listening to commercial radio.
I bought Sirius for Howard, and Im really glad I can catch alot more of the show because of the replays, but I listen to many of the other stations almost constantly when I’m home or in the car.
I will admit that after a couple of weeks though, their playlists need some expansion. I gave up on Chill 35 and went back to my bigger and better mp3 playlist. Area 33 must have like a 10 song playlist, I always hear the same crap on there every timeI tune in. BBC Radio 1 (11) is great on the weekends though, what with all the big-name UK DJs shows.
The biggest surprise is a station that I discovered by accident, it’s a French Canadian station on 93. During the day, they play stuff that I can’t understand and have no interest in. But at night they tend to play alot of really good electronic music. The more experimental stuff, not the same Tiesto, Ferry Corsten crap I hear on Area 33. Zwarbyt would absolutely hate it.
yeah satellite is well worth the money…they have something for everybody…and imn actually dead serious…i listen to howard every now and then on the way to work but this mornings was by far one of my favorites…studdering porno…haha i was crying cuz i was laughing so hard. i dont even listen to my radio anymore and barely ever my cds…o well im happy
You know what else is really cool? The ability to pause the radio, as well as rewind. That way if I miss something, I can just run it back and hear it again. Also learned about the “memo” feature by accident the other day. If you put a favorite artist or song in memory, it’ll alert you any time it is being played and tell you what station it is on. Awesome features.
now that is a killer app. one that I would actually consider dumping the Palm OS platform for. As soon as they allow Howard 100 / 101 to be broadcast on the net.
