I don’t know this guy, but he was in the CNY f-body club so you know he’s legit
To make a long story short…
Clay, NY man buys fish legally in 1999. This snakehead fish, named Rocky, lives in a 200 gallon take in his kitchen. Fish species is outlawed in NY in 2004. Now the DEC has nothing better to do than try to take this fish and kill it.
I admit there are ecological hazards with a non-native predatory species, however I feel the state has better things to spend its time on. Abused children, schools, roads, layoffs, budget deficits, etc.
There is a petition to save Rocky at the link below:
what is the law for? i know its banning certain fish, but why? i mean he has one fish in its own tank which is not harming anyone but 36 gold fish a week. whats the harm in keeping this thing
The law is because people let them go in the wild. These fish are real tough and can survive in a ton of different situations. In the warmer states these fish pose a huge threat to native ecosystems because they will basically kill anything just to eat it. They are pretty nasty.
Seriously, the damage these things cause when they get released into area waters isn’t worth the risk.
EDIT:
Nevermind. Just read the full article and saw the part about this specific snakehead not being able to survive in our cold climate. If he can produce scientific evidence that’s true let him keep it.
