I don’t know what your idea of abuse is, but my dad driving it 20 miles a day for 2.5 years before giving it to me and then me driving it to and from college for a year (only from the South Hills to Beaver Falls) wouldn’t really constitute abuse. The engine blew when I was going up the mountain by Uniontown on my way home from camping, no cel or anything before that.
or some fucktard didnt put it together right in the factory…
True. But you have to look at the other side to, his brother (same car) is practically falling apart right now. Indeed the car still runs and has done its job for 5 years, so I would think that car oddly enough has stayed together well.
Overall I think “stock” Imports etc, can handle more abuse then most “stock” domestics. Yes there are exceptions, but I see more domestics fail when abused then imports. .02
hmmm wonder if we could go out and get a G8 GT with a pretty penny off. we been lookin at one
Good, I own a Saab and it has been pretty much a nightmare on stupid little shit breaking. I loved the car when I first got it, but after a month it was at the dealership for check engine lights constantly. Just recently turned 70k on the odometer and Im just praying I can get it paid off before the warranty runs out at 100,000 miles. Not to mention how fast these pieces of dog shit depriciate. And I could really give a fuck less about ever owning a saturn or hummer.
Really, I’ve always thought you’d look right at home in a pink Sky.
Manual Pink Sky > Auto silver vette
The typical import vs domestic argument. Everyone has a differnet opinion and differnet experiences, to say one is better than the other is dumb.
Cops and Taxi drivers beat the fuck out of crown vics all day long for 300,000 miles, domestic makers know how to build a car that lasts.
Yup.
They last that long because the state or taxi cab company has a team of technicians that work day and night on them to keep em on the road.
I’ve been to a fleet repair center in Maryland where a friend of mine takes his on duty/take home police car every few weeks to get it fixed or get a new one. 100’s of broken down crown vics, impalas, luminas and tahoes.
yea
maintenance is a factor. If you neglect any car, it will be a POS in a very short time frame, import or domestic.
i see ford becoming the number 1 domestic company. this is going to be a result of bringing over the european lineup. it will have sporty affordable cars that are comparable to the “import” market. i’d drive a european ford–way different lines and look/feel to them than a us spec.
i see chrsyler, if they can get through the next 3 years, becoming the 2nd biggest. fiat, who was pawned off by gm, uses gm money to make the merger. wtf would fiat want w/ chrysler? dealer network! i see alfa, fiats making a comeback. fiat becomes compettion for the rabbit/civic market as well as the smart car. not to mention the higher line alfa w/ the audi/bmw/acura market. take into account chrsysler suppling vw engines for the minivan. why buy a 40k+ town and country when you get the same engine in a better looking/appointed vw for less money??
gm, i just dont see a future. their foreign cars i.e. opel/vauxhaul etc, are more or less parts bin cars now. the volt is their hope. i dont think they are goign to die off, but i do see a struggle for them to even stay alive.
in all honesty, what was the last domestic car that turned your head?
im sure u ask some people here and they say a chevy aveo…for me…everytime i see a challenger i break my neck… dont care if its heavy, dont care if it handles like shit, dont care if its not efficient …it looks like big giant tan boobies!
Thats funny because most new domestic cars are designed for you. Huge, dont handle, and serves no purpose.
^^^^hahahaha^^^^ thats the truth. i’m not gonna lie i’ve beat the S*** out of my cavalier and he hasent died on me yet. maybe its because i do the required maint. on it but still most domestics have very cheap looking/feeling interiors and like vw16 said they don’t handle at all, are heavy, and when was the last time that one that turned heads?
good example… now name a moderately priced car.
show me a example thats american and can contend with a evo or sti…
cobra
import vs. domestic woohoo! never had one of these arguments before.
a girl i work with had a saab and traded it in with 98k on it. she said it was falling apart fast and that was why she was gettin rid of it. i drove it home from pittsburgh to detail it for her and i thought something was going to fall apart from all the sqeaks and other misc. noises it made. i think it was a '99 or '00
Name a moderately priced sporty car comparable to the evo/sti that i can comfortably fit my family in and carry stuff. No seriously, name one because I’m in the market for one!
And giving individual examples of an import/domestic that was good/crappy is almost pointless. Everyone can give an example of one they’ve owned or someone they know that owned one that supports either side of the argument. You really have to look at fleet wide statistics of reliability, cost to own including maintenance costs, fuel mileage, resale value, etc, etc (and I don’t mean Consumer Reports).
