im mainly interested in it so i can play og nintendo games on it. is this possible? is there a better/cheaper console?
i remember having a nintendo emulater and dld’ing games to play on my comp but the keyboard playing got annoying. i also remember hearing something about playing nes games on a dreamcast?
fill me in, or just link me to some shit where i can do some reading. thanks
on the og xbox? yes. you can software mod these.
basic steps:
-soft mod the box
-add a larger hd (to hold those dl games/mp3s/movies)
-find your Apps and ROMS on the intertubes
I did this a while ago, several emulators, skinned the console with XBMC (Xbox Media Center) and made it look like xbox 360, and ran Linux with a Windows GUI…in my car. I also swapped out the power supply, built a voltage regulator and powered the xbox directly off of 12 volt.
I have tons of research materials and spare parts and files, so if you have any additional q’s, shoot them over.
you “might” need a boot disc to run it (search TPB for it), but from what I remember dreamcast didn’t have any kind of copy protection methonds (or at least, it wasn’t much of anything… no modchips needed or anything like that)
Ya softmod a original xbox. They are solid units and really powerful for modding.
You only need a memory card with the ability to copy files to it or someone who has a modded xbox already and can copy the game save crack for you to the memory card.
The correct game. I used the original Mech Warrior which I found at EB Games for like $4.99.
Then almost any IDE hard drive will work but there is a list of hard drives and their results from using them.
No mod chip is needed for the dreamcast, but like he said you might need a boot disc. I used to have to use one to play burned games on mine, but it was only for some of the games.
Done right on a DC you don’t even need need a boot disc. This is probably the easiest system to get it working on. Download a pre-made image, burn it, play it. However genesis, and SNES emulation were not 100% if I recall.
