Scooter?

Hi guys,

I’ve been listening to my brother who kept saying that he wanted to buy a scooter because of it’s great MPG (duh).

He mentioned that for 50cc (49.9) scooters, you do not need extra/special permit to ride it in NYS…is this true?

What do you guys thinks about riding it here with all the crazy drivers around ya?

I’ve seen several nice ones out there:

Piaggio:

Honda:

What do you guys think? I’ve also seen more and more people riding these kind of scooters in Amherst area…

Holy Hell

To quote GTA

It would be the Faggio.

but whatever

i wouldnt feel safe going that slow

that’s also the point i was about to say…

they probably go at max. around 35 mph??

probably you can’t ride these scooters on bicycle lane, right?

believe it or not, in some other part of this world, scooters are the primary means of transportation:

as depicted here:

I’d rather pedal than ride one of those.

thats gonna be one helluva an orgy.

i would rock one. but i wear crocs and live in the hippy state :gotme:

^ yeah, i saw that one too. funny thing, both brakes are drums.

great idea until you meet up with something very large on the road without the speed/handling to get out of the way

oh yeah - not to mention that You are a crumple zone at that point…

eh, not to shit on any parades, but - there’s no room to bring Stuff with you, really. i would never get one unless if i abs had to and/or everything else on the road was one, too - so i wouldn’t be scared to death to cruise to work. F that.

pussy

We sell piaggo at bucks, if your intrested. Looks like a fly 50 you posted
aprillia has some bad ass scooters

Scooters suck. You DO need a motorcycle license to operate most of them. They are slow and for the money you can get a real motorcycle that can actually get out of its own way.

But, to each their own.

Repost. so many people have inquired about this already. jesus. and if it goes over 29 mph you need a motorcycle license for it.

i bet the zuma 125 would be pretty awesome.

and if you want one, take the license test. if you can’t pass it on one of those, you don’t have any business being on any sort of two wheeled vehicle.

seriously, do you really want to look like this guy?

They are slow, but you can still get hurt. I cringe when I see a broad riding one in barely any clothes.

I fell at 20mph on my bike onto pavement in just my pink leotard and I am pretty battered. yikes.

First factor in the cost of buying it, registering it, maintenance for it, how many days you won’t be able to drive it as a DD because of possible weather, need to go on roads that are over 35, or need to take a passenger or cargo.

Then figure out how many miles you’ll honestly ride that over your current DD (you’re in Amherst, where it can be winter 7 months of the year). Chances are the smarter investment is just using the money you’re going to drop on a moped for gas for your car, and that’s not even factoring in the increased risk of injury from riding the moped.
