great idea until you meet up with something very large on the road without the speed/handling to get out of the way
oh yeah - not to mention that You are a crumple zone at that point…
eh, not to shit on any parades, but - there’s no room to bring Stuff with you, really. i would never get one unless if i abs had to and/or everything else on the road was one, too - so i wouldn’t be scared to death to cruise to work. F that.
Scooters suck. You DO need a motorcycle license to operate most of them. They are slow and for the money you can get a real motorcycle that can actually get out of its own way.
and if you want one, take the license test. if you can’t pass it on one of those, you don’t have any business being on any sort of two wheeled vehicle.
First factor in the cost of buying it, registering it, maintenance for it, how many days you won’t be able to drive it as a DD because of possible weather, need to go on roads that are over 35, or need to take a passenger or cargo.
Then figure out how many miles you’ll honestly ride that over your current DD (you’re in Amherst, where it can be winter 7 months of the year). Chances are the smarter investment is just using the money you’re going to drop on a moped for gas for your car, and that’s not even factoring in the increased risk of injury from riding the moped.
