A friend tried to Seafoam his 2001 GMC Sierra with the 6.0L V8 and ended up using a vac line from the fuel system instead of the pcv system. The car now runs real rough and stalls out on him.
Is there an easy fix for this? Something to take apart, clean out, or replace? I’m a bit confused since I know seafoam can be used in either the intake or fuel system but he said no white smoke came out the exhaust when he sucked it in.
I had that thought in the back of my mind. What’s odd is that he drove the truck for 40 minutes home and it ran great. Then he went to go out again and the car started acting up. The belts started squeaking and he was starting to get lower voltage than normal. This might be unrelated but its all happening at the same time.
I’ve always wondered about this stuff, whether it’s worth trying or not. I’ve had a handful of cars over the years that I thought might be good candidates, but never tried it…
I was told by a former mechanic I trust 100% to steer clear of the stuff. Same reasons you’re giving…basically it dislodges and risks causing more damage than good.
Don’t wait till 150k and do a tranny flush/oil/engine cleaner flush
I did this yearly with my old formula along with tranny flushes and never had any issues.
The Seafoam(induction service) thing is just about the same service the dealers recommend/up sell…If it was causing major issues I doubt they would push it and deal with the hassle.
Tightened a tensioner and it helped but the car is still stalling. Going to try to put a 1/2 tank of fresh gas in today and see if it works itself out. Other wise we’re gonna start by changing the evap solenoid that’s on the intake manifold. Not sure where it is but I’m going to look at the truck a little later to see if I can find it.
