My co worker brought his Mini-cooper in for a battery yesterday to the Sears Automotive Center. The car has around 40Kmi on it, and has always been maintained by the dealer. It needed a battery and he was in the area so he figured anybody can put a battery in a car, right?
Brings it in and says all he wanted was a battery. The tech puts it on the lift, and a little while later they tell him his tires are unevenly worn and they would do a free alignment check for him come back in 2 hrs, sure go ahead if its free why not. So he comes back 2 hours later, and they tell him his brakes are bad and should be replaced to the tune of $900… didnt even mention the results of the alignment. He declined the offer and told them the car is very lightly driven, has no braking issues and all he wants was the battery that he came her for.
Goes back into the waiting room as they take the car off the lift and attempt to drive it outside. I say attempt becasue the tech drove his Mini THROUGH THE GARAGE DOOR! :retardclap Then they try to tell him the tech couldnt stop the car becasue the brakes were so bad! (A: he didnt have an issue driving the car there, and B: the tech didnt have an issue pulling it into the bay, STOPPING, pulling it onto the alignment rack ((if they even did), STOPPING without falling off the rack, and yet again pulling it onto the lift and STOPPING for the third time!)
So the cops are called and Sears gave them the same “the brakes are bad” bullshit, and claim he is liable for the damage to their building! So the cop tells him if that’s the case he cant even drive the car off the property! They tow his car and take a report. He has it towed to the dealer that does his maintenance and they verified the brakes are NOT an issue at all. So he has to have the car looked over by the insurance companies, and gather a case up proving his car isnt unsafe to drive.
Its one of the biggest BS story I have heard to date from someone getting bent over by a rip off service station!
I went to the sears at rotterdam square mall to get tires(only cause i could use my sears card and not pay all at once) and they didnt bolt up my front driver side wheels all the way and it was about to fall of if it wasnt for me going to Autobahn and having them check out the clunking sound…SEARS blows.
Id have him call the DMV Vehicle Safety Dealer/Repair Shop complaint unit to file a complaint about them because that’s ridiculous. There number is 474-8943.
sounds like the fucktard sears tech pulled the calipers back to check them when he wrote it up for brakes and then forgot to pump the pedal and could stop it so it went through the door. Personally I would take them to the cleaners.
WOW! Sear’s is responsible for all damages… Plus the towing! That is a Krazy story.
Some serious drama there. It would be very hard for anyone to keep their cool in this situation. I would be hella pissed! I would have asked the cop to test drive the car and tell me what his impression of the brakes is!.. lol
They should also owe him restitutions for his time. Thats a huge inconvenience.
Customer service these days!!! IT BLOWS… It’s all about upselling & parts changing. They are all flat-rate technicians. Don’t send your mama or grandmother there. GEEZ
