Seeking advice as only NYspeed can provide

2 weeks? lol, good luck with that

It’s like $20 to get a replacement title in your name. Only takes a week or two, from what I remember.

I’d get the title, ask the dudebro who bought it from you for the $20. Sign the new title and hand it to him. What he does with it after that isn’t your concern.

Thanks. I prolly will just snag a lug but I do want to report them then to protect future customers from the same risk. They are REALLY lucky on this one. People sue for being fat off McBurgers, this could have ended badly for all involved. It’s a bonehead move. At least airhammer the bitches on so I can never get them off, don’t put em on so they just come off themselves. LOL

I hate to just turn my back on the car deal. Seems kind of shitty and I’m not a dick. I mean legally I certainly can go request a new title and re-sign it over to him. It will take forever to get the title then again for him to get his copy to sell. Not really my problem though and I don’t wanna break the law for a few hundred bucks. :stuck_out_tongue:

Why good luck? You think that’s too long?
Thanks for the challenge. Now I WILL get what I want from them. I love being told I can’t do something.

the lug nuts were likely tightened, and loosened up

If they were only hand tight, you would have heard the wheel moving after about 5 minutes of driving.

^ This what I’m talking about. Let the two of them deal with it with the DMV instead of acting greedy and thinking you’re going to get the higher sale price now. Most likely it will result in the originally seller needing to title the car in his name so he can then sell it to her. He’ll probably need nothing more than a signature from you and pay some money to the DMV. Violations blah blah… if he goes to the DMV and plays stupid it will take nothing more than some money to make this go away.

What bothered me is how you seem to think you’re entitled to something in pretty much every transaction you’ve ever posted about on nyspeed. Taking these stories by themselves it’s easy to side with you, but when ever transaction you seem to make has some story about how you got screwed, be it career, health, sale, or service, it starts to look like maybe it’s something you’re doing and we’re only getting one side.

I’m sure they can expedite for a fee…I bet about $30 on top of the $20 for the replacement title.

Standard time for a title to come in is like 8 weeks. So 8 weeks for my copy, I sign to him and 8 weeks for him to get his title. GULP

OK…so we don’t get into a game of semantics. They were NOT torqued properly. Which is part of being a mechanic. You are checking the car to be sure its SAFE and in the process of checking it you make it UNSAFE. Pretty simple case IMO. I’ve handled and conquered much more uphill battles. Resolve comes from being firm in your reasonable request for reparations. If you puss out or are unreasonable you won’t win.

When will I receive the duplicate title certificate?

The method that you use to order the duplicate title certificate determines the processing time and delivery date of the certificate. The following list indicates the normal amount of time that you must wait to receive a duplicate title certificate. There is no guarantee that your title certificate will arrive within the time indicated.

On-line – The duplicate title certificate arrives in five to seven business days.

At a DMV office – The duplicate title certificate arrives in five to seven business days.

By mail – The duplicate title certificate arrives in six to eight weeks.

can we add TradersBASE to the douchebag poll?

I love shitstorms!!! Keep the hate coming fellas. LOL.

I’ve sold many cars (and other things for that matter)…never had anyone fuck the back of the title up. I filled it out to him, he filled the bottom in thinking he could skip titling and sell to her. You only hear about the issues because I’m seeking advice. Why would I post when shit goes good or I’m positive on the process? What feedback would I need then? Think about what you just said. I’m not gonna debate this further. If I posted all the shit that went fine I’d be called a post whore or troll. I only post when I seek others input.

Make sense?

Thanks. Duplicates are nothing I’ve ever had to deal with as I’ve never fucked one up. LOL. This is the kind of info I was looking for, thanks for not going on a kill TradersBASE rant.

I would take great honor in the nomination. Thanks for your incredibly valuable feedback as well. :meh:

I had to get one for a truck I sold…it was very quick and easy as long as the right address is on the title (you’ll need to verify the address and the new title will be sent to that address).

I have had lugs back off and shear studs before.
I had torqued my wheels to 100 ft/lb’s as specified.

What I DID NOT do was check them again a few days later.
Took about a week for me to lose 2 studs on one rim.

THIS

… it DOES happen

Fair enough. I have never had em back off when torqued and I don’t recheck em. But if protocol is to check them 2 days later then I guess I messed up. I don’t have a torque bar since I’m anything but a mechanic. In any event this is also good info and what I was looking for. Going forward I’ll take the car back 2 days later and have whoever did the work retorque the lug nuts.

Thanks.

Its more common with aluminum rims.

Nothin says fun like a wheel that shakes the whole front end on the 198 in traffic only to discover 2 missing studs and 2 of 3 loose lugs when you get out to check it:(

HOLY SHIT. Yeah, that’d blow badly. Change lugs and your underwear at that point. LOL

So thanks for the info (especially Brent). I have ordered a duplicate online and paid the $42 bucks total to rush it. I’ll sign that over to my buyer when it comes in and he has a fresh slate to title the car in his name. Since I could do it online and didn’t have to dick around in the DMV for hours I’ll get my fees back from him and call it a day. Beyond that it’s between him and his buyer. Was that so hard? I realize it’s more fun to antagonize people but I was looking for serious input.

how long will the Rush take?
