I moved my shift point down about 150 rpm, and I’m still hitting the rev limiter on a full throttle 2-3 shift (at least I think that’s what’s happening). I’m starting to worry that it isn’t from the new gears, and that it’s a transmission problem. Whaddaya think, move it down more, or should that have fixed it?
move it down!! has it did it all summer
It only did it sporadically (try spelling that one!), but now it’s doing it more often. I’m going to move it down more and if that doesn’t work then I’ll start diagnosing from there.
I need to do some work on this car anyway. I keep putting off the charcoal canister - I know it’s bad but I want to find out why. I need to check the solenoid, fuel lines, etc. I need to get a vacuum gauge though. Does Auto Zone have them to borrow?

i got a tech 2 we can read what the trans is doing!!!
we can check ur can (charcoalcanthatis)vac gauge for what??
It’s reprogramming right now. I’ll see what it does. If it’s still doing it then I’d like to check the transmission.
The vacuum pump/gauge is for checking the EVAP pressure control valve. Apply 15" Hg, should be 5" Hg after ten seconds. It’s also for checking the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve (which also requires the Tech 1 tool).
Just did three runs down Rt. 51 and it seems okay. A 2 mph drop in shift points for the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts seems to have fixed it. Might need just a little more for the 1-2. Yay, cost to fix: $0.00.

Did u have the shift firmness set?
Might take you up on the scanner tool some day. I’m always willing to pay for services though. Tools aren’t free and neither is time. Thanks for the offer.

i moved my 2nd-3rd shift up 300 rpm. and it did not hit the limiter. but im going to move it down becuz it seems like i lost power going into 3rd. i guess u just have to f**k with it.
