I’m surprised that nobody brought this up. Anybody else pay attention to this shameful shitstorm? One douchebag on Fox News douped the whole country. We as a country were too lazy to check the facts and ruined a good woman’s reputation and career?
Seems like there ought to be a lesson in there somewhere, though I’ll be damned if I can find it. :dunno:
Uh guys it was biggovernment.com that put out the video, then she got fired, then Fox reported on the story. There was no story or person on Fox that got her fired. CNN had a timeline on this after she said “Glen Beck” was going to do a story but never did.
I’m sure no one posed this because no one really cares, lol.
According to Fox, which was all over this story and has been heavily criticized for its approach, its first mention of the Sherrod affair came at 8:50 in the evening when host Bill O’Reilly ran the unfairly edited clip and called for Sherrod’s resignation.
In other words, Fox News claimed it was following the story, not promoting it.
But what Fox does not include in its timeline is the fact that its internet face, Foxnews.com had been carrying the story all that afternoon.
Nor does Fox note that the O’Reilly show is taped at five o’clock in the afternoon, well before Sherrod’s firing.
About the only ‘lesson to take away from it’, as you had originally searched for, seems to be found at the end (at least this is what I took away):
“You think we have come a long way in terms of race relations in this country, but we keep going backwards,” Sherrod told Joe Strupp of Media Matters last week. She speaks with hard-won authority. While America’s progress on race has been epic since the days when Sherrod’s father could be murdered with impunity, we have been going backward since Election Day 2008.
I agree with the first part in that we have definitely come a long way in the country in terms of race relations…but feel we have been going backward much longer than 2008. As long as the topic is brought up…the longer it will exist.
What happened to her is no doubt unfortunate, something I could never truly relate to. As to the rest of the story and all that was dicussed…that’s beyond me as I can’t give any attention to that back and forth banter.
I did not read the link, but cought bits and pieces on the news and from my new office mate.
The initial video screamed reverse racism…
The update hsowed how screwed up the govt. can be.
Oops, we mistakenly fired you based on poor reporting and negative attention.
Sorry, please come back and fill this position that did not exist last week…
