So what if it’s slow? I’m sure it’ll be faster than most cars on the street, with more street cred than the dealer originally had to offer. On top of that, he built it himself and just didn’t throw in an ls1 to please the mob.
LOL its not about just pleasing a mob it is about hard work and dedication TYPICALLY revolving around making the car a BETTER PERFORMER. Wait till this thing hits the track and see how much time and money was involved to probably run stock LT1 times. Like I said I appreciate his hard work and dedication to the project, im just not into his desired swap I guess.
Edit-Im really just correcting the newb who thinks he would have the fastest car around hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
I doubt the SHO motor would outperform the LT1… I’m sure we all know that. But I guess we’ll find out when it’s all pinned up and running some track times… Minor bolt on LT1 will run high 12’s with all the planets aligned. I know… lol I’m sure this set up will be similar… Although I doubt thats the goal of this project…
SHO motor, 5.0 mustang motor, b18 honda motor… He could swap anything into that camaro and it may run a sloppy time… But he did it.
More street cred than the dealer had to offer?
More like more laughing “cred”. Hmmm, LS1 car pulls up with big cam, or big turbo, whatever. While not a huge Camaro fan, I can appreciate a fast car, and I have enjoyed driving a few of them. But a beat up, hacked together early 4th gen, with a Ford V6 with spray?
BWUAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA.
Lol@ phoenix 305 being a noob…he’s been around longer than you have and was one of the first 20 or so ubrf members, as was I. We just don’t post useless shit that doesn’t need to be posted hence our low post counts. I gave alex a lot of shit about this project at first but knowing the final plans for it I expect to be surprised. And for everyone saying its gonna be a slow nitrous car, learn how to fucking read. Its only going to be on spray for a while then its going turbo. These motors can make pretty big power and without the limits of shit transmissions and front wheel drive I can’t wait to see what it’ll do.
it’s not my cup of tea, but like others i can respect somedude’s originality with the build and hope him luck. it’s definitely something different. and i am in no way bashing his build with the statement regarding the quote below, i’m criticizing the quoted’s view…
-
money alone /= a fast car.
-
somedude openly stated his round-about money used in this build, so far. i’m sure there are much faster, crazy street cars in the area than mine that just aren’t seen very often. that being said, they will definitely have much more elaborate/expensive transmissions in their car than myself to handle their cars. mine is really barebones with a brake and a converter that can handle the power. before i go completely onto another tangent, what i’m getting at here is that i’m pretty sure my tranny alone (which is one of MANY components of the puzzle) cost more than this complete build so far (WHICH IS OKAY!!! I AM NOT BASHING SOMEDUDE’S CAR IN ANYWAY, NOR AM I BOASTING THE $$$ IN MINE, THAT WOULD MAKE ME SICK). I’m simply saying, I don’t think you have a clue of what it takes to be amoung the faster street cars around…
good luck with the build!
Alex’s green sho is where all the money is. His white sho, which is on built suspension and there is a lot of money in that. This car is on the cheap side…so far. The parts he has were cheap. The parts he still needs are money. I agree money isn’t the measure of performance. But this project is using pretty proven parts and should move out pretty good.
IDK how much money he’s got in that green SHO, but there are definitely a LOT of cars with WAY more in them on this board.
Just because he spent all his money on it doesn’t make 15K into a 900 dollar car ballerish
I cab agree with that.
last time i saw the SHO at mighty it was smoking like a freight train…someone told me they were looking for a boost leak by revving the fuck out of it?
^^ lol @ your sig
that car has never had a boost leak other then the flange on the maf housing, which was epoxied LONG ago.
it however has had more then its fair share of exhaust leaks before the turbo due to the space constraints we had to work with. and once the fans kick on for the radiator you have to rev the car to get it to leak enough to actually feel it blow on your hand.
the other option for finding an exhaust leak would be to rip the entire exhaust system out of the car and visually inspect it, and thats a god awful amount of work
my bad, why was it blowing clouds of smoke?
I’m all for being original, but what is with the SHO motor obsession! More power to ya…
early on it was because the PCV check valve was forgotten, and one of the camseals walked out just enough to start to leak, alex put it back in but over time teh cam seal went to shit again, hello clouds of smoke again
or it could have been one of the times the CV shaft seal shit the bed, that also dumped oil on the hot pipes before the turbo, and oil soaked heat wrap obviously smokes for ever
I actually wanted to build a street legal f1 looking tube framed car and put a sho motor in back. Yahama got BIG power out of these cars with different cams and stupid rpm levels.
The RPM was actually limited when they put these engines in the Taurus due to the accesories not being able to withstand anything over 8000 RPM.
or run a smoke machine through the exhaust. it works wonders.
that stuff creeps through everything and will find the finest pinhole you could ever imagine… love our smoke machine.

I have a pile of 12 sec passes in my taurus, quickest was 12.79 @ 108 That was on a stock engine with a cracked piston. The stock engines are pretty tough but the one going in here will not be stock when i’m done with it.

BWUAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA.
beat up and hacked together? i’m glad you can see the future because right now it is a very clean 4th gen in the beginning stages of a build.
And for everyone saying its gonna be a slow nitrous car, learn how to fucking read. Its only going to be on spray for a while then its going turbo. These motors can make pretty big power and without the limits of shit transmissions and front wheel drive I can’t wait to see what it’ll do.
+1

the smoke was caused by the electric oil pump for my turbo not running. When I was on my way back from NH in july I drove for nearly 5 hours in a really heavy rain storm, and apparently the fuse holder for the oil pump corroded because water got in it and the pump didn’t come on with the ignition. When the engine is running it pumps oil to the turbo and the electric pump removes whatever oil it can pump out. When the pump is not on the engine pumps oil into the turbo and right out the seal on the exhaust side (probably the intake side too) and that is what caused the massive smoke cloud from the exhaust. I cleaned up the contacts and it has been fine ever since. All of the things nick listed were resolved before my road trip in july
I was not reving the shit out of the car, so don’t try and make it sounds like I was acting like a fucking ricer sitting at mighty reving the car. I put the car in drive and loaded the engine to build boost for a few seconds to make sure one of my couplers didn’t rip or something stupid. Yes the exhaust is fucking obnoxious.
Yahama got BIG power out of these cars with different cams and stupid rpm levels.
I have the full what is believed to be the true history of the SHO engine saved… I would post it but nobody cares.
The current NA power record on the forum is a bit over 300whp
the current CONFIRMED boosted power record is 636WHP on a SC car and he melted a piston when he changed his pulley because he leaned out. Then he broke a input shaft, Then 3rd gear stripped, now he is building a complete HD gearset for the 5speed trans. boost is rumored to be 24psi with pistons, cams, stock rods and crank, block. Transmissions and traction are a issue for him. He can’t break into the 12’s yet he traps over 120mph

not trying to build/buy a baller car. Just want something fun to kick around in with a bit of power. If i wanted baller I would just buy something nice. There is nothing baller about a 15 year old red camaro with pinstripes of the previous owners name and a V6
