here’s a good article in car and driver about the SMG
You were a poor replacemt for dado anyway…
I’ve driven M3’s with the 6 speed and the SMG.
For me, since it’s about DRIVING, I’d never want an SMG. I could care less if I’m a couple tenths slower to 60, because I’m having a lot more fun getting there. To me an SMG is way too much like driving “standard” in Gran Turismo. Click the button, perfect instant shift every single time. No challenge, no involvement, nada.
Clutch pedal 4L.
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH
fuck smg
what do you need to shift in 80 milliseconds for? you dont track the thing
even if you did, it wouldn’t make a difference. what, 1/1000 off your laptime, while doing a just-for-fun trackday?
i dont like smg. i dont see myself buying it. maybe if i had a fun car, and was looking for an automatic daily driver, i’d consider smg. otherwise, clutch 4 life\
lol i just re-read this. I didnt mean it like im comign at you, im just saying the quickness in shifting is inconsequential
:word: Unless you’re gonna become a diehard track guy…or move to NYC…no reason for SMG
Oh and PS - Depending on how much the car is, and what you can get for a trade…it might just be easier once you count in the tax savings
again I will ask the same question that you never answered before.
WHy not buy a 328 or 330 (whatever it was that year). It is cheaper than the M and you can spend money on the mods that you enjoy.
if i were you, i would take all (or as much as you can) of the aftermarket parts on your car off and put it back to stock before you sell it. you can then sell the parts separately. you will end up getting more for your car that way in the end because you can make more m,oney off the parts after the fact. i had considered doing thatr myself, but the stuff i have isnt really anything big that i could sell for very much used anyway. jsut a thought.
Yeah stop spending more money jerk face!
Well find you a nice new car in :snky: in a few months
Lots of ignorance in this thread.
I’d do it, and take the SMG. Were I to buy one new, I’d order it with a SMG. Driving an SMG E46 is every bit as enjoyable as the 6 speed, and when you get down to it, if you are stuck in traffic, it doesn’t suck giant horrible donkey balls. Esp. if it’s a DD.
I am all for paddle shifters and electrocomputergizmo gearboxes. However, I just watched the whole first half of the WRC 2006 season in the span of a week and a half, so my opinions are a tad biased at this point.
Actually it’s not, SMG-II (unlike SMG-I) is a true manual box. Also has launch control etc. I say do it if you can afford it. e46 = sex.
doooooooooooooooooooooo it
I’m all for it, but just a heads up :
I’ve found that my priorities have shifted and paying a shitload of money for a car loan + insurance (which is expensive as fuck in tampa) isn’t in the cards.
That’s a nice car, but will you really be able to afford it,
-
with the car payment increase
-
with the insurance increase
at first i thought dos had a good burn, then oooo snap… aaron with the burn-back…
i say do it… i thought about buying it… i agree with newman… it wont be as much fun, but what you lose in fun, you gain in the hotness factor… plus its lower mileage… yea it would be a no brainer if it was 6 spd but what can you do…
what year is it? and is it worth it to you to take on a bigger payment? just a couple things i think you proabably have considered, but need to be in the situation… no sence extending yourself for something that isnt what you want 100%
good luck with w/e you do though.
ahh the dreaded “being able to afford it” vs “being able to pay for it” argument :ohnoes:
I like your current car Skunk. I’d keep it, but do what you got to do man, whatever makes you happy. I actually dig the yella…
insurance + payment < 10% gross income = afford it
