I don’t have to drive one. I prefer to shift myself…end of story.

Amen brother.

And yes, I’ve driven one. The SMG in the M3, just like Viper’s car. My old boss had a 740iL and when he brought it in for service they gave him an M3 SMG as a loaner.

Since I was one of the few people he knew would could remotely show him what that car could do we took a 2 hour lunch and gave it a thorough test drive.

It’s a neat toy, but after about 45 minutes I was dying for a clutch pedal and a real stick. I’ve said it over and over… To me SMG is like playing Gran Turismo.

I know it’s faster at the track, and faster in a drag race, and just plain faster in general. I don’t care. To me having a fast car is about the fun and challenge of controlling it well. Being a second slower around TMP is never going to cost me a race, since I’m not racing anyone, so I’d rather have my laps be about having the most fun.

LOL. I thought you said you’d prefer to shit yourself instead of drive an SMG.

Damn that thing rows through the gears pretty quick.

hahaha

I know that SMG is a very good transmission, and I know that it is quicker than rowing gears yourself. But unless you are a professional driver in a race, do you really think it matters?

JaysLX - Nope.

I’d rather shift personally as it’s much more interactive and fun.

Hence why I don’t like auots all tha tmuch. Sure , they are nice at moments, but overall, I’d rather shift.

<3 SMG

SMG = Novelty

It’s fun for awhile, but I’d rather have full control. I got a good laugh out of that video though with the MONSTER tach next to the gauges. The BMW gauges are easy to see already, then you add SMG and a loud exhaust, no reason he shouldnt be able to shift within 200rpm of redline EVERY TIME.

And yes, I’ve driven SMG, and I can honestly say I would probably buy it on a daily, but not on a track car. (Plus it’s just one more thing to go wrong I cant service myself).

^ why can’t you service it yourself?

super complicated… probably difficult to work on in comparison to a manual transmission

i agree with the peeps that say its neat, but would rather shift myself. i HATE HATE HATE automatic cars. it my number one reason i have hated all my winter beaters. i fall asleep at the wheel i get so bored with autos. i dont care if its faster, i still want my clutch pedal and stick

you dont need to justify yourself to people. smg vs. manual is merely a matter of personal preference. i would prefer to shift myself, but that doesnt mean that its “better” or “right”

people will disagree with you or poke fun, but you only fuel them more by posting “i need to justify myself to everyone” threads… :gotme:
